He was only with us for 3 seasons and was only brought in as understudy to David James when Grobbelaar eventually left, he wasn't as good as Brucie, James or Westerveld for us so McNutly's just stirring the **** with his throw away comment.
yup.

Brad Friedel was brought in as competition to David James. In the first and possibly second season, Brad got a fair few games under his belt despite DJ not being injured:

Well he never won the "competition" with David James, there have been plenty of understudies in the goalkeeping position at Anfield down the years but very rarely has the main man been ousted by a better keeper.

I wouldn't say either won. James played more in those first two years but then he was sold off whilst Friedel had one more season with us, therefore he out lasted James. That's all besides the point though, he wasn't signed as a back-up to James, he was signed as competition. If he'd been signed as back-up, he'd have hardly played.

He never "hardly played"
31 games in 3 seasons?
And Westerveld(along with James)played most of the games during Brad's time at LFC, he was not as competitive for the first team slot as your memory thinks.![]()
Your not reading what I'm saying. I never said he was competitive, I'm saying he was signed to be competitive. Intention and reality often don't match.
My point about games is that a back-up rarely plays at all. See Brad Jones' record for evidence.

They are obsessed with Gerrard's hairstyle at salford quays, mentioned it yesterday and again today.

17 seasons and only one haircut
Steven Gerrard is one of the ultimate one-club players and as QPR's Joey Barton pointed out yesterday onTwitter, he has only had one haircut in all his time at Liverpool.
it might be a boring haircut but its his own hair.
Imagine if he had been as baldy as a as bobby charlton and paid to have someone else's cast off follicles stapled to his head?
No footballer would be vain enough to do that though.![]()

And for the 3rd day on the trot salford quays are reporting on Gerrard's haircut.

In 1998, a fresh-faced Steven Gerrard walked into a barber's shop as a promising Liverpool youngster and asked for a short back and sides.
And, as these Merlin Premier League stickers chronicling Gerrard's career will attest, nothing has changed in the subsequent years.
Number two in the barber's chair, number one in the heart of modern-day Liverpool fans.
