I'm glad someone said it.

This was evident once the season finished and we had all the Barton threads, it's amazing how people ganged up on the bloke whilst forgetting that tevez was originally at fault and deserved a tap or two.

What happened after that is a different ball game and I don't condone it.

Waste of a talent indeed.

Surely knowing what was at stake for his team, he more than anyone else on that pitch needed to stay calm & exercise maximum self control, what actually happened is of course history.

Quite right and To be frank not interested in debating it again mate.

Yeah I agree with what you say to an extent Hoops but I'd be a hypocrite if I said I had never done something stupid in anger and frustration, that could ultimately screwed up a lot of people. And I think there are a good few on here who could say the same.

Played well after the Liverpool subbing...The goal against Swansea at home springs to mind...I for one will give him a big cheer if he puts on a Rangers shirt again..
Anyway enough of my joey worshipping...i've got a train to the Bush to catch...c'mon u rrrsss....

WTF has been going on here? I have a nice little break, come back to find some ersatz version of Swords being bland all over the site, DT seems to have lost his dada mojo, Belfast appointed himself moaner in chief, Secret/CB busily rewriting history ( still want to know about the famous incident in the tunnel in Eastlands where someone got 'hurt'), and more threads about ****ing Barton.

Just about to set off for LR, football at last.

COYRs!!!!!!!

Waste of talent? What talent? He was dire for 80% of last season. Whatever ability he may have shown at other clubs we got only glimpses of anything when he was in the hoops. For the life of me and don't see any basis for anyone to lament his moving on other than the money that the club is wasting on him while he stays.

Stop talking sh*te. The Guy's a lowlife who's had more chances than I've had hot dinners.

But most importantly, he's a rank average player. Him being turfed out the door makes me very happy indeed.

Don't disagree with what either of you have said. It is a big shame. However as the majority have said, he was given his chance and blew it. He, almost as much as Briatore almost destoyed our club in the season which should have been our happiest in the last 20 years. He is unfortunately a Jekyll and Hyde character. I hope he does learn from this. But not with us. Having bottled the correct decision at the time (to sack him for gross misconduct) Hughes has dealt with in the best possible way.

Am I the only one who is saddened by this news? Without in any way condoning any of his unacceptable behaviour, I find it sad to see talent without the stability and depth of character from which to practise that talent.

A very strange feature of our society is the readiness with which the pack turns on yesterday's hero once they have fallen.

I emphasise, absolutely no excuse for his behaviour but I find it all rather sad and no cause for gladness.

I accept I may be in a small minority of one!

Good post this! You aren't the only one a bit saddened! I think he is still good enough a player, but would probably be a cancer in the first team squad, and if he played he would probably get sent off too often as the opposition will be out to wind him up and have him off. On balance a good decision by the Club.

Joey Barton has been told that he must look to go out on loan to get first team opportunities.

The news, ahead of the team's tour of Asia, suggests that Barton (30) will have to wait until January before trying to force his way back into manager Mark Hughes' plans.

“He’s got a three-year contract,” said Hughes, “but as I explained to Joey, he wasn’t going to be in my 25 and he needed to look at his options.

“He could come back here and train with the FDS (development squad) – but he wouldn’t be training with the full squad."

I knocked that up in 30 seconds and could have done the same again suggesting JB is embarking on a mission to Mars.

It could all be true but I don't see this as confirmation of anything.

I understand your point of view, but I for one will glad to see the back of him. I said following the Man City game that in my opinion he must never pull a blue & white hooped shirt again. He could have single handedly got us relegated in that final game.
I was prepared to give Joey the benefit of the doubt when he signed for us, but he crossed way over the line and clearly there was no way back for him. Everything that has happened is completely self inflicted, he has no one to blame but himself. Also, he didn't set the world alight when he did play.
I won't be shedding any tears when he does depart!

Pretty much all of this, but especially the bolded part. He cannot be trusted to keep his head, put his ego aside and think of the bigger picture when the stakes are high. He's the epitome of a loose cannon and I hope we never see him in the hoops again.

Well Said RTID and CB, glad I'm not the only one with these thoughts

I agree with RTID and SiR as well.

Can't forget the massive contribution Joey made after he got dropped. If only he'd kept his head against Tevez, exposed Tevez's shenanigans and left the ref to issue the necessary slaps.

I am bit sad about all of this. Barton himself was/is his worst enemy and that alone prevents him to playing with us. He would have been excellent player to be in january when our boys of africa are away. I might be in minority here, but i wish to see Joey to play with us again.
