Okay, I've only just found out what BAME means. Maybe I'm stupid, maybe I'm just naive, but isn't lumping everybody who isn't white into one group massively offensive? Isn't legally obliging every club to interview one BAME candidate unbelievably racist? Are we interviewing female applicants? Or disabled dudes? Or bald guys? I can't imagine being black, because I'm not, and I'm sure that thanks to plenty of ****s in the western world it's more difficult than I could possibly imagine, but I can't imagine being happy that I was interviewed just because I tick a box. That would surely feel proper ****, and you're not guaranteed a job, just a ****ing chat. Am I just an idiot or is nobody free to get the most fit person for the job, irregardless* of skin colour, sexuality or follicles? Thoughts? Other than I'm a contentious white bald man? *I know that's not really a word, Castro
I don't think the world's gome mad We've not gone mad yet, but we may be on the way. I have no issue with vacancies being open to everyone. I don't see why people should be excluded, or included, before they've proved their worth. If Sol Campbell was our manager next season, and he was ****, it wouldn't be because he was black. If we got promoted, it wouldn't be because he was black.
It's not obligated to give the job, just ' balances ' out (statistically) when looking at managers with similar qualifications and experiences , it was found that BME managers are less likely to be short listed / interviewed. My other comment was just sarcasm
The game should be looking at why they’re statistically less likely to be shortlisted rather than forcing at least one person to be shortlisted - it doesn’t solve the problem in the least bit.
I suspect the reason would be found to be ' institutional racism', so rather than change / challenge (attitude's) individuals , change behaviours hoping attitude's follow
Good points !. You see a lot more Black American coaches in NFL and NBA over in America ! Take a look at European football and there isn't many at all ! I am surprised that we don't have more over here with the amount of different Nationalities we have playing here !!
Behavioural change does often take a long time to change culture (seat belts in cars) though does not always work (mobiles whilst driving) even with carrots or sticks. I wonder what you would suggest would help?
