Noticed this season that there seems to be a higher percentage of people sitting at away games than in recent years. My question is - is there a way to choose to have tickets towards the back of the stand (so I can stand up) when applying for tickets? How do you standers get around this problem?

i usually just check the person behind me isnt really old, or a little kid..and if they arent i just stand up and more or less make them do the same, 9 times out of ten there isnt a problem, i think most people want to stand and are quite happy when you do it and make there mind up for them, too many people scared to make the 1st move, bit like a school disco 
In an ideal world I would! But at Donny I was stuck in the middle of a load of sitters and could not see any free seats to move to to stand in! Same at Brighton although I managed to move after half time. Worried about Forest now! Last season everyone stood but don't fancy another Doncaster situation!
I'm 45 am feel like a kid at some away games, it's like fekking Derby and Jones club day out at most away days! Where the **** did all these old ladies start watching city they werent there in 1980 traveling away to Oxford, Port Vale and Bradford!
Now I don't begrudge the support (if they made much noise) but **** me they should sit all the coffin dodgers in an area the ambulance can get to just in case McLean scores a ten minute hattrick and they start having heart attacks!

Aww i remember the old lady who sat a few rows down from me in the East/South Corner the past few seasons, lovely lady she was decked out in black and amber come rain, shine, wind or snow i named her 'Babs' but her legs were still with her im sure when we scored the 3rd against Doncaster last season she jumped as high as the roof.. whatever she's been having, think ill have some too!
It has been a bit odd this season and it's not just the oldies, I nearly twatted some ****er who was younger than me at Leeds, for telling me to sit down all the time. If the away end isn't full, it's not an issue, you can just move to the back, but if it's quite full it's not always easy to move(particularly if the stewards happen to be a bit awkward). I think the ticket applications should have 'seated' option for all those who want to sit and they should stick them at the front, leaving all those behind to stand if they wish.
At Scunny away last season, the entire away end was stood for the entire game, it makes for a far better atmosphere.

This problem will never go away unless the authorities allow safe terracing to be introduced into grounds (which is very unlikely) which would allow fans the choice whether to stand or sit. It would also greatly improve the atmosphere at all grounds because the singers can all gather together without restrictions.
I noticed the Brighton forum is also discussing this matter and think it is a problem for most clubs.
I think that every club should allocate an area of neutral seats (like Fulham) where families, oldies, infirm, etc of both teams can sit together, thereby allowing the away seats plus some home sections to be given more freedom for fans to stand as they wish.
i dont think any club could legally sell tickets as standing or other. however, they could ask if the preference is front or back I presume?
the solution to this problem is simple. Hull City should reserve a block of tickets for the ones who want to stand. but they wont. gggrrrrr
I always ask the ticket office for a seat near the top of the stand for away games and they usually comply! This involves physically going to the ticket office though andmay be an issue for some people
Same with us, we sat a lot as loads of padding and leg room, seemed more spacious than those in Club Wembley - probably won't be there after they've hosted Millwall though.
Burnley should take a leaf out of Brightons book in that regard

I'm at the KC on Nov 8th, for a meet and greet with AP, NP, Walshy, Shakespeare and Maguire, I plan to ask about what options there with regard to sorting this issue(just after I ask if there's any chance of having meat in the meat pies from now on), as I have a related issue, in that the club seem to assume that the Premier Club members want to sit down and I'm forever having to move.
Brentford did this when they came to Elland Road. They designated one half of their allocation as the 'singing section' and the other half as normal tickets, giving their fans the choice to apply for either. To be fair, they all stood up when they came but I guess that would be the solution. Can't believe there are people who willingly sit - and impose on other people by asking them to sit - among away fans. OLM had the right idea.
