Have to say the Palace fans were fantastic today. Created a brilliant atmosphere and it definitely helped the team.

We played our part to in generating the great atmosphere mind but their fans definitely would have given their players the extra 10%.

If our home fans followed suit especially with our tough run of home games coming up it'll help the team greatly.

On another note I couldn't believe a bloke in front of me. Shouted at almost every error and gave Paolo and the players the finger when they came over to applaud us. Like I mean shouting at every error is hardly going to help the team...

Not sure if you noticed TVI but the fans were standing. Our fans would be a lot better if we were allowed this privilege. Unfortunately we have overzealous stewards and policemen who prevent this. I do appreciate however they are doing their job as requested by the H&S cert issued. How come other grounds police & stewards etc are, shall we say, a little bit more lax or understanding?

Not sure mate. We stood for 90 minutes but there was one tannoy announcement asking all fans to sit down which everyone ignored haha

Stewards at Southampton last week were going round asking people to sit down but don't think anyone did it today. They certainly were more relaxed

On a side note, Selhurst park is a **** hole. Some seats were wooden ffs. Manually operated turnstiles and a single door for a block which is ridiculous.. spent like 5 minutes in a crowd trying to get into the stadium

Only been there once. Game we got relegated to Wimbledon. Thought I was going to fall through the floor. Vowed never to go to that ground again.

SOS TVI meant to say whilst playing at the SoL. SAFC fans still sounded good today. Most places appear/sond better than ours for atmosphere. Not sure how when we get 40k there

Yeah always confuses me as to how quiet the SoL can be, if the fans at home put as much effort into backing the lads as when they travel away from home we would be much better at home.

It's a shame because like I said Palace support today was brilliant and they helped their team win

Whenever I go to the SoL there has never been an atmosphere like the one today. That's mainly because we're always ****e when I go up but if the fans were to get behind the lads from the first whistle then we may not always be ****e

Even tho selhurst is a hole I love it, its a proper old fashioned ground with great atmosphere.

Spent most in the homesdale end (I think) crammed up with a big
Crowd which there always was,
Hated watching bloody Wimbledon there as always got cained every season regardless .

Would not change our grounds but for once a year selhurst is great !!

Yeah, fantastic atmosphere. Loved that aspect. Went berserk when Fletcher equalised with all in mind after his long layoff it was special

Defo need a new stadium mind. Wooden seats man! ****ing hell haha

Sjp is not as loud since we had it expanded
None of the big grounds now do these days.
The issue is the noise gets spaced out and loses its presence, roker had a top

My first thought, after the penalty, was for our supporters who were there ...... great effort and much better than Palace will put in up here.

"Nah not going mate, Sunderland's facking miles away and it's all cotton mills and whippet racing."

BTW, the stewards in front of their 'Ultras' were beyond pathetic ..... dancing around, in front of them for 90 minutes, to 'prevent pitch invasions'.

Shameful ...

Yeah all the smaller grounds generate a better atmosphere. Sad really as you think by expanding a smaller stadium which has a great atmosphere to get more fans in the atmosphere should improve.

Singing fans end up getting stuck at one end of the ground so the atmosphere suffers

It's all to do with standing up - we should have an area at the SOL where we can stand up all the time. The Cardiff fans were all standing against Man City. Seems like some clubs are not bothered about all this Health & Safety crap.

That's what makes our away support even more impressive. Pretty much every game is a trek so to take 2000 fans consistently all over the country is fantastic

For me Selhurst park is extremely close. But obviously a lot made the journey from Sunderland

Some of the older stadiums were intense , nobody liked playing away at west ham, millwall
Southampton, highbury but now going to places like the emirates is like going to a posh restaurant its to nice.
West ham will suffer when they go their new stadium that's a bad move

Yep. All about the extra money that they'll generate though

You have to question whether or not it's actually worth losing the atmosphere and consequently an edge over your opponents

If all the fans in the stadium were willing to get behind the lads obviously it would he different but it just tends to be a single section

Money ruins football far to much

It's about the luck of the draw in who buys you, you could do a Chelsea, man city or do a Portsmouth, rangers

Yep. However ****e Ashley is I suppose you can't grumble too much as he keeps the club afloat! Would hate to be in Portsmouth's position.

Just thought of an example of a big stadium that's generates a fantastic atmosphere: Dortmund's stadium (can't remember the name). That's certainly aided by the fact that they have a standing section.

There are a few, there is talk of standing coming back in a seat/stand all in one solution which would be great

been banging on about this for a while. standing sections behind the goals is the way forward ala Germany. SO MUCH BETTER!

if fans turning up at the Sol reflect attitudes on this forum - whinge and stick the knife in at every opportunity rather than support - are we surprised the atmosphere is often mostly ****e?

But thats the problem, a lot of people on here are out of touch with modern day football. It has changed from how it used to be. Not saying whether it is better or not.

It is all well and good saying that you get behind the team 100% and make as much noise as possible etc, but these same people could just as easily be the same ones who help generate the 'bad atmosphere'.
