EFL1 (Championship), Saturday 23/12/2017 : Aston Villa 2-2 Sheffield United That as a match that was not short of drama. On the face of it going 2 up in 10' and then being pegged back could be interpreted as failure, but Sheff Utd's first goal was Route One and their second was due to luck ... bad for Jedinak, who misjudged the bounce of the ball and good for SU, who scored. What does concern me is that both of Villa's goals came from set-peices, a penalty (Adomah) and a header by Jedinak from a free-kick. I want to see AVFC scoring goals from open play, for that is the way to win games in the long run. There was also too much passing the ball to marked players (!) and too often free players were overlooked for a pass. It was certainly not all doom and gloom though, AVFC did play some good passing football at times, but we need the complete performance and not a curate's egg. I was very impressed by Adomah, who put in an excellent performance throughout, making him my MOTM. I witnessed all this from Upper Trinity Row J, as for some reason AVFC decided to shrink the open area in Block A7 and my Row A seat was affected by this, causing me to move. Both sides have 38 points after this draw and AVFC are 6th, ahead of SU on GD (+9 to +7) after 23 games. Attendance : 35,210 (AVFC)
