Big money and big ambition backing from Lawrence Stroll makes Aston Martin a team to watch. They’ve hired a roster of talent, amongst which catching many eyes was the recruit of Dan Fallows from Red Bull. He very nearly joined McLaren for the Honda era but Red Bull persuaded him to stay.

Of course, everyone is interested to watch Aston build a car not based on a Mercedes having “mirrored” concepts of the most recent regs, so a new rule set gives them a blank page from which to start.

It would be surprising if they fought at the front in 2022, but certainly into 2023/2024 onwards this is a team that can rapidly become a force.

In summary: weirdly flat top edge on the sidepods, and nasty wheel covers. At least it looks different from the mock up though.

It has the same slightly awkward-looking side pod intakes as the Haas, It's a stunner from the side profile though. Credit to Aston for showing us their actual car as well.

I wasn't sure about how these cars would look aesthetically, but really liking them a lot. Think it's because they look a bit IndyCar to me for some reason.

Just really hoping these reg changes have the desired results.

Bit of editing out there on the web that highlights some of the definition of the bodywork.

So pleased to see someone at least put something like their real car out there.

PS- what a gorgeous livery. Thank goodness that pink has gone.

Unfortunately for Alpine fans- the dreaded pink could be headed there and spoiling the sky blue tranquility of Alpines livery!!

(Alpine could be a gorgeous car if they got the colours right and removed the needless black rear wings and the tricolour red and white nationalism <laugh>

Apart from the liveries, I'm not that interested in the approximations being presented at this stage. We're not seeing the actual cars yet.

But I do like Vettel's and Stroll's statements on sport vs show, especially if they reflect the general message that the drivers gave to the Masigate review.

From the Beeb...

Vettel said:
The main thing is that we focus on the sport and not so much on the show.

And especially...

It's great racing and everyone wants to see the two drivers in the championship go head-to-head with one lap to go, but you can't be making up rules at the end of the race like that. It has to be set in stone.

If the consequence is that there is not time, and we don't get a whole lap of racing, well..that's how it is. This was maybe a little bit too much. It's important those things are set in stone.

Abu Dhabi was just not right. When there's a safety car, lapped cars get to overtake the safety car and then we go racing. There is nothing that says half the cars can overtake and half stay behind and then we go racing. Those things can't be modified just to put on a show.

The rules are the rules and you can't be changing the rules for entertainment. It has to be sport first."

I think the side pods cooling vents are a red herring and are maybe there to disguise something trick on the real sidepods - well I am hoping <laugh>

I was hoping someone would be doing something with the 18" wheels but they all seem to be going boring black to match tyres!!! I thought they were going to have lights in them! I seem to remember reading that they could have led messages on them but that's adding weight so probably a stupid marketing idea that no team will put into practice. At least Aston's have a few white markings on them.

Maybe Alpha Tauri have some white rims with matching trims.

Just watched this youtube vid on the Aston:

I have no idea how accurate the youtuber is in his review but he makes some interesting points and he is suggesting the sidepods vents are actually a real feature!

Interesting stuff but he looks sickly. :) needs a steak.

Anyway. Interesting on the slots and the under zone driving the air there to get big benefit st the diffuser.
