There's a few here with rose tinted glasses that need to be surgically removed.

In an attempt to provide balance on the forum, I would suggest there are a few here with black tinted glasses that also need to be surgically removed.

(P.S. I don't include you in that group as you are the epitomy of balance and fairness :))

I wonder if it's a case of (and god knows I've been guilty of it) trying to compare what you see on the highlights on MotD from other teams and what you get when you sit and watch a whole game.

Highlights will point out what people do well and when you compare what you see for 90 minutes at the Liberty to a 90minute programme of the good stuff, you think to yourself, "omg, we don't/can't do that stuff for hardly any of the time".

Well actually, neither can most of those. The difference is, we don't go and watch their 90 minutes.
Can we improve? Yes.
Is Monk inexperienced and making a few mistakes along the way? Yes.
Has he got it right so far (from a overall assessment perspective)? I'd say so.

We've said for a very long time, the table doesn't lie. I'll take this points total after this many games.

A valid point but my comparisons for our performances are based on being at the game or tbh for most away games watching a live stream, and comparisons with performances of the past.

The tv point is a good one but works both ways. In the games against Everton we were on the back foot for virtually the entire game, our passing was awful and, save a handful of instances, we were pretty poor. The managers said it, the players said it, the pundits said it, those at the game acknowledge it (brave face - we defended well).
However, when I saw highlights from MotD it came across as an even game - it wasn't. The same has happened in reverse countless times (I'm using our most recent game as an example) so anyone who has been privileged to see the Swans live for many years will know TV coverage is very false.

I think he inexperienced at all levels and should have been given experienced support.
Given the way the league has developed thus far (bizarre tbf) and the way we have played I'm yet to be convinced.
Our points and position are outstanding but if we look at our opponents' form and position in the leagues comparative to ours when we played them, rather than a interesting but rather meaningless comparison with last season, we could / should have at least 5 more points.
Dodgy refereeing aside we are more likely to be punished by poor decisions if we are camped around our own penalty area.

We have a very good 1st team, lacking (depending on your point of view) in only a couple of places; and we have 4 or 5 good PL / competent subs.
Our defence hasn't leaked goals although we have given soft goals away and let's be completely honest how some teams have failed to score is unbelievable.
Some of our transfers / none transfers have been questionable.
Our style of play has changed by replacing style for solidity.

Monk stikes me as a typical English manager in the Kenny Jackett mould - solid. Reading Matrinez' comments after the Everton game was really interesting; he obviously feels his legacy has been watered down to a point that is unrecognisable!

What I have disliked is Monk's ability to wind people up, managers, players, refs, other managers.
I also dislike the hypocrisy of some statements being made about how fantastic Monk is when he's not; typical would be the praise for our style of play which, in my opinion, should be described as type of play (as apart from brief moments) there is little stylish about it.
The 'soft' criticism of previous regimes when the alternative has made little positive improvement, fitness & discipline being the obvious candidates for discussion.
I can only appreciate so much defending and watching the opposition have the ball.

Other than that all is well.

I do and will support Swansea City fully and loudly from the stands but reserve the right to express my honest opinion on issues on this board.

Fair points well made Bob, but you MUST accept that people are not hypocrites simply because their views differ to yours, that's very hypocritical of you to say that Bob

I agree with all of that Aswan - especially the last bit. <laugh>

Come on ... I was being prejudiced not hypocritical

A "bonus" win today means we are 5 points better off in relation to the comparative fixtures last season:

Man Utd 1-2 Swansea (+3)
Swansea 1-0 Burnley (Same) *
Swansea 3-0 West Brom (+3)
Chelsea 4-2 Swansea (Same)
Swansea 0-1 Southampton (Same)
Sunderland 0-0 Swansea (-2)
Swansea 2-2 Newcastle (-2)
Stoke 2-1 Swansea (-1)
Swansea 2-0 Leicester (Same)**
Everton 0-0 Swansea (+1)
Swansea 2 Arsenal 1 (+3)

*Replaced Fulham
** Replaced Norwich

My assessment of Monk is that Jenkins has pulled off another winner again, man we are one hell of a managerial production line.......................<party>

7/10 for the reasons outlined above, both pro and anti, he seems to be learning quickly so I have no idea who is giving him the advice

you have shouted Monk Out every game musty so how do you get 7/10....that score says he is an acceptable manager ..<laugh> no manager is worth 9 or 10 out of 10 as they all lose games...<ok>

A 5 point improvement over 11 games would mean a 17 point improvement over the season. That is pretty awesome, especially for a rookie manager.

Look how much money the likes of Liverpool, Everton, Man U, Arsenal, etc spend on players and managers. We are above them all and only 3 points behind Man C. This is a fantastic season. Room for improvement of course, and I think we will improve. But so far, can't really fault our start.

That was true of Paulo Sousa too - having the best defence also means we aren't scoring many goal +3 s OK but when a foreigner produces those stats without a striker he is ridiculed and written out of our success story.

Given the teams we've played and where they are and the form they are showing I would have expected 5 points more. & I'm not alone http://bwinbetting.com/leagues/premier-league/swansea-good-start,63153.html?

You expect too much and will never be happy. You expect us to be 2nd or 3rd in he Premier League? One day maybe, but top 5 is pretty awesome for most of us.

What the ???? are you on about? Where do you get the 2nd or 3rd bull from?

If Expecting the team to try playing football is too much then we may as well give up IMO. I'm more than happy with a quality performance of football like we had on Saturday - the first full game this season where we have reached the quality of play enjoyed for much of the last 5 seasons.
Top 5 means nothing if we are playing like Stoke of old. IMO.
