I have had to ... got pissed off typing in my user name .. too old to keep typing in that name maybe too much Morocco gear lately.

it's me Beth ... walked to the opening match with you ... hope you are well?

No ...Is it really you Oddball? You of the Red Shoes!!!.... I would have never have guessed....Not without you being called DT and you being the only one clever enough to have a rolling.... David Lynch, Jane Russell, piggy, faith and bacteria avatar and you with your 41 million points and 400,000rep points ...I am shocked, I thought it may have been a mad newbie!!!

Its clear that when it comes to commenting on our Tarbs' performances, things can get divisive on this Board and sometimes spin out of control. I've played my part in these dusts ups, as have others. On a Taarabt thread last night, all out war erupted between two posters and continued well into this afternoon. Perhaps its time we establish a code of conduct when it comes to assessing Taarabt's displays so such messy affairs don't develop again.

For those of us who are critical of the player, let me state where we're coming from. Its not that we don't think he's a good player. I think everyone has always agreed that his potential is huge. The problems arise when a general hysteria is whipped up on the Board and he's lauded as an all conquering great. When this is done on a continual basis, it alienates a small number of contributors who prefer to base praise on actual achievements rather than future potential and conjecture. During our one and a half seasons in the PL, Taarabt has played some good games and some bad. Played brilliantly at times and dreadfully at others. When he has a stinker, a collective dismissiveness takes hold and everyone from the Manager to his team-mates to the fans get blamed for his poor performance. And when he plays well, he's up there with Lionel Messi.

These irrational positions have the effect of forcing a small number of posters to push back and in doing so, they can end up being very vitriolic towards the player when in normal circumstances, their criticism would be far more balanced. Personally, I have found myself saying things about the lad that, in the cold light of day, appear very much OTT. However, in the context of having to listen to a relentless stream of hype, this overreaction can perhaps be understood.

Yorkie started a thread last night, no doubt himself annoyed at our overly harsh critiques, to put one or two of us back in our place. I've no problem with that and it was a good OP. Unfortunately, Queens' response was like that of an angry man who's had enough of the Adel adoration and his almost hysterical response was way above and beyond what he would say had he not had to endure weeks and months of non stop frenzy around that polarising player. So what you get in the end, in its most extreme form, is what we had with Queens and Finglas last night and today.

Another (albeit less confrontational) example of this problem would be when COL posted up his report today. In my opinion, he overdid the praise for Taarabt, and I responded "and away we go". Straight away I was told that I didn't think he was MOTM. In actuality, I thought he was outstanding yesterday and was clear MOTM but because of the last year and a half of Adel worshipping, I don't trust COL's judgement and went into defence mode. Instead of wanting to praise the boy for his performance, I find myself getting irritated at everyone else losing the run of themselves entirely. Its a vicious circle you see. Over the top praise brings over the top criticism and things degenerate from there.

So can we all try to be a bit more reasonable and objective? For my part, I will stop attacking Taarabt when he has a bad game. And I'll try to be less impatient when he has a game that things don't come off for him. Maybe others can meet me in the middle and dampen down their euphoria when he has a good game and be a little more objective when he plays poorly?

If we can do this, we can take the sting out of what has become a divisive subject and in the process, avoid what happened between Finglas and Queens from recurring.

Don't this guy go on a bit, too long

The Taarabt debate is all about waiting lads ...

Unfortunately this service hasn't been accessed in the way I had initially hoped but I think this initiative is more pressing now than it ever has been since its inception.

This thread was set up with the express purpose of allowing posters to debate the Taarabt issue in a controlled environment where everyone's views would be afforded equal respect and consideration. In the last few days I have noticed various groups forming again and behaving in a hostile manner toward one another. This situation is not helpful to the Board and is not conducive to Board harmony and inter-poster relationships.

I am hereby, once again, requesting that all grievances past and present relating to the Taarabt question, be communicated via this medium alone, in order to quell any potential unnecessary unrest throughout the rest of the Forum. It is vitally important we all act with maturity and sensitivity in this divisive matter and channel our energies appropriately.

As can be seen at the top of this page, I had originally requested Roller's assistance to be a kind of intermediary between the various factions, being aware of his adeptness at defusing volatile situations. As Roller is now a Moderator, I believe he is now in the perfect position to offer impartiality and guidance on this matter and his calming influence over all posters could prove to be invaluable here. I therefore request for you Roller, to consider maintaining a special vigilance on this subject as I believe, at this moment in our evolution, this matter is of supreme importance and requires particular attention.

I also request the Mods sticky this thread.

I'm looking forward to utilizing this service extensively over the coming period and I'm confident many others will avail of it also.

It really is a shame that you save your best writing for your wind ups; if only you would put this thought and effort into a genuine post. I’m not entirely sure as to who your target is this time, is it one of Taarabt’s supporters, Col or may be Finglas, is it still me or perhaps you are just casting around for a new target?

Anyway, suffice to say that we really don’t need an ongoing Taarabt thread, nor will Nines and I continue to permit any more threads to be hijacked. At only a quick glance there have been three attempts of late to turn innocent threads into battlegrounds, if any matter is of “supreme importance” to “board harmony” I believe more of our contributors would think it was this.

Both wumming and thread hijacking are specifically mentioned in the standard offences section of the forum rules so can we please draw a line under this incredibly boring outbreak before we end up with some casualties?

As Eamon suggested what feels like months ago “Move on”.

Bloody hell, if that's the response a bloke gets when giving a compliment, I don't know what the World's coming to. God knows we could all do with a bit more positivity toward one another but if that's the reaction, what's the point?

Maybe I should just keep quiet in future

Please God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks soo much for putting me in this position Swords...so here goes

Ok lets not say another word about Adel until Adel plays his next match in a Rangers hooped shirt.
( I will allow an exception to this if he plays against the blessed Rrs when playing for another team...let us say Fulham or any other team he may join).

Is that a fair compromise???
