Good postI feel bad for some of the players tbh, we've got batters who for 3 years have been told no accountability go out there and slog who are now getting their pants pulled down whose brains are so scrambled they can't just flick a switch to play 'proper' cricket and are just outright failing. Bowlers who've been told to just ****ing wang it down as quickly as they can as that's 'how we'll win in aus' being panned all over the shop, only taking wickets due to **** shots.....a spinner we've picked who can't even get a county game, backed him to the hilt then dropped him without even giving him a go.....none of these players play any red ball cricket so have no form, bowlers got no overs in them.....the majority of my anger is squarely reserved for Rob ****ing Key the useless prick and McCullum. They've overseen all of this, Key in particular has been fundamental in the sidelining of the county game in favour of crisp packet cricket and we're now reaping all of the 'benefits' of the last 5 years of absolute idiocy.
the damage when massive structural changes were made to the ccc were never going to be immediate, we still had a bowling attack of Anderson broad Woakes wood and Robinson (joke he's not in team) batters like root, bairstow, stokes, pope, buttler etc who'd come through championship ranks and learned their red ball trade before making the test team, it's now that the previous generation are moving aside that the dismantling of red ball cricket is paying it's negative dividends, I genuinely have no idea how this gets repaired either, ecb has sold out to crisp packet cricket and counties make all their own money in short form, there is no way that the 4 day game will get the respect it should any time soon and there just isn't any talent coming through especially with the ball, any more. Once Archer retires from tests, and that'll be soon, along with wood we're left with a bowling attack who barely ever pick up a red ball and no real means to find replacements. Genuinely think we'll go longer between ashes wins than we did pre 05 atmWe’ve got away with murder for years because of a swinging ball . Each country has home conditions that they are used to . But after going there for 100 plus years we should know what works !! When the Aussies came to England with possibly their best ever attack they bowled continuous accurate balls at the stumps waiting for our errors or impatience .
So we go there not knowing they bowl line and length and always have done , it bounces a bit more . We bowl like Broad did for years always trying to manufacture a wicket , then he finally got his act together and played the situation bowling accordingly . The current crop bowl wide ,leg side way too much , it’s sloppy Starc doesn’t and Boland is not even a Bresnan .
Genuinely feel cricket in this country is dying and the trend is irreversible. Already feels like a minority sport on a par with RL. I'm always surprised when I meet fellow fans just generally out and about. For the Aussies it's in their national psyche. For those running our game it's just a cash cow.the damage when massive structural changes were made to the ccc were never going to be immediate, we still had a bowling attack of Anderson broad Woakes wood and Robinson (joke he's not in team) batters like root, bairstow, stokes, pope, buttler etc who'd come through championship ranks and learned their red ball trade before making the test team, it's now that the previous generation are moving aside that the dismantling of red ball cricket is paying it's negative dividends, I genuinely have no idea how this gets repaired either, ecb has sold out to crisp packet cricket and counties make all their own money in short form, there is no way that the 4 day game will get the respect it should any time soon and there just isn't any talent coming through especially with the ball, any more. Ours are more bothered about making money and have short over games and getting fans/pissheads in and making a fortune on selling boozeGenuinely feel cricket in this country is dying and the trend is irreversible. Good point I think. Darts and F1 too, just because they're easy to watch on TV. See a lot of those orange tops around that that Norris lad wears, for whatever manufacturer he's employed by.The popularity of the sport has got to be a big issue. Not many young people care about it at all. My mates are baffled that I'm interested in it. Stuff like NFL is trendier now which I think is a shame. And I think the Premier League as well, the same way it distracts people from supporting their local team and going to live games it probably distracts them from other traditional sports too.
My dad was telling me recently about cricket matches between offices at work back in the day, that sounds like total fantasy stuff now, being able to get two teams of people at work to play cricket.
