Have you tried out Chat GPT 4?

It's amazing, and accessible to everyone. It basically knows EVERYTHING of note prior to 2021.

My wife is a clinician with a masters degree, I'm a drop out personally. I asked chat gpt 4 to write a dissertation on her specialism and it knocked one out, that genuinely gave her pause for thought, in about 50 seconds. It is unbelievable!

The whole world is about to change. It's entirely likely our time as the most intelligent entity on the planet will be over in the next year or 2. So, the question is, why would a super intelligence even put up with us?

Couple of links below for more context, although there is way more to watch or listen to than this and these are long enough! Also, do try chat gpt for yourself. Other than purely skill based practical jobs, you should probably start using it. The impact on jobs is going to be monumental, at the very least. It can code better than the best coder, compose your emails, do your excel formulas, write articles, poems or songs in the style of Shakespeare... possibilities are endless.

It could lead to a nirvana where we all have endless spare time and all diseases are cured, or, it could be the end of days!

It does seem to be getting better but I seem to recall similar things being said about personal computers - about 40 years ago. Reducing poverty, and solving the worlds problems, in reality only a select few gained real wealth (Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos) and there is still widespread poverty in the world.
I currently work in higher education and the use of ChatGPT will certainly cause problems for all HE institutions establishing if online assessments have really been completed by a student or Artificial Intelligence.

So according to Musk we have 2 years before the machines take over - hmmm sounds like hyperbole to me

Musk is a massive fruit loop who loves to wind people up, however, he has a point about needing to work out the potentially dangerous consequences before steaming ahead with development.

Lad I know generated a sales pitch using it and it fooled the sales team so its definitely impressive. Ive used it too for documentation at work and it’s a bit scary how good it can be.

I know someone who is studying a therapy course and it was able to provide overviews for theories, elaborate on these and also provide recommended resources for studying. If used properly it could be incredible but the issue is people will try and abuse it.

ChatGPT produces output that reads like something a real person could have said, but that's all it's trying to do. Because it's been trained on a large set of data, it tends to come out with feasible sounding answers to questions, but it really makes very little effort to check that what it's saying is correct. What is dangerous is not ChatGPT itself (or other AI tools), the dangerous thing is people's belief that it's actually going to give sensible answers that they should rely on. It might do, but it might not. Just because it's using AI doesn't mean that it's "iteligent".

Throughout history craftsmen of all kinds, from stonemasons to carpenters to mosaicists have deliberately left a 'mistake' in their work in cathedrals, palaces and other great buildings. They're often the most illuminating and intriguing part of these great works. They're put their to 'spoil' what the perfection the owners wanted to create, in the eyes of the workmen only their god could be perfect ... otherwise it was done out of spite!

The great artists, like da Vinci, Rubens Michelangelo, etc, would do the same often against the wishes of their patrons. There's a magnificent bridge in Provence called the Pont du Gard which is way more impressive than any microchip. In hidden corners the various masons, forcibly brought from all over the known world, carved graffiti that still endures. Much of it, in whatever language, is pride in their country, messages to their gods or forms of 'Fiick the Romans, the pack of bastards'.

The design and engineering of bridge is marvellous but the best of it is the simple joy and triumph of the human spirit over adversity ...

... a lesson we seem to be forgetting.

Everyone's got a degree but nobody can fix their own toilet any more.

I spoke to a Swedish mate in the South of France, recently, who's lived there happily working as a Swedish /English translator for universities, legal documents, wills, helping police/customs with detained suspects, etc.

His workload is dropping rapidly and he thinks he's screwed ...

... AI can do the work in minutes that takes him hours.
