I'll cut through all the bolloxs, if someone said to me who do you think were the greatest British club in your lifetime, I would say Liverpool, merely because of their run from the 70's into the mid 80's when they became invincible in Europe, it was only that sad tragedy that put a halt to their dominance.

Don't get drawn in by all the bolloxs and marketing of the Premier League, some of the best football was played before 1992. You had Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley - not forgetting the players, Rush, Keegan, Dalglish, and the keeper with the wobbly knees!

Don't be sold with what SKY might sell you, football existed much better before TV, and a lot of todays generation never got to witness it but more take what their sold as a package for their big fook of TV's.

I agree with most of that, however that sad tragedy halted Everton's progress, as they were about to end Liverpool's reign with an excellent team. I reckon they would have won the European Cup too.

I can't remember tbph regarding Everton. However, I do remember going to see my lot play at Priestfield against Everton in the FA Cup, I think that was 1984, possibly the same year they went on to win it. @Tobes to confirm

It was mate. We went on to beat Oxford which saved Kendall’s job then beat Watford in the final. If was the springboard to success for that side. Won the league, cup winners cup and lost the FA cup final whilst still pissed up, the following season - cue Heysel.

I might have this wrong because i can't be asked to check. But I'm sure ITV had the footballing rights for live League matches before SKY. The reason I remember it was because my local newsagents, used to sell the Match Day Magazine/Programme on Sundays. I'm sure I remember from the magazine front covers, Liverpool and Arsenal being featured. Anyway some dickhead at ITV decided this wasn't going to work, then along came SKY....and as they say, the rest is history.

Technically speaking in the era we was discussing just now 70's through to mid 80's, i thought Man Utd were struggling, the Busby Babes were no more. Didn't they even get relegated to the OLD League Division Two (now the Championship).

Not sure what year that happened, but by far and away, those 2 are the biggest most famous clubs in England on world terms, the rest are small fry.

I can always remember back in the day, we weren't like the Americans, I remember from my time in the states, it was all subscription and we had none of that, and games such as the NFL cost a fortune to watch, and all the sponsorship. Hence probably why i'm so outspoken these days about Tottenham, it was the days I never wanted to see, but hey that's what they call progress. But you ask any fans from back in the day if they loved the old grounds, and most will say yes. Hence why i've never wanted my club to move, even though the plans for it and the location have already been agreed. Not sure how I will feel if that day ever comes...maybe then it might be time to call it a day. We'll see.

Now they are sterile, but comfy with great facilities, and cracking views.
