It is so easy to blame the poor paying punters for the shenanighans on the pitch. It is a complete cop out. These players will play away from home and concede soft goals, play without passion, play like they do not want to be there. Let's not over play the adverse effects of fans negativity. With our run of results most teams in the top half of the table would have gotten rid of their managers. Emery would not have lasted in any serious club after last season. Our defending is not top 10 let alone top 4! So please lets not lose sight of where we are and start blaming the fans... If I went to the theater, paid upwards of 100quid and feel there was a lack of effort on the actors, I have a right to complain. As Piskie already alluded to, it is a 2-way street, the players have to do their bit!

Bayern Munchen, top of the table lost 5-1 to Eint Frankfurt, the coach was fired.. The same coach who won the league (I believe last season), let's not cultivate a culture of mediocrity, whilst charging champagne fees at the turnstiles!

He’s got a point. The fans do need to feel inspired in order for them to get behind the team. But ultimately it comes down to the players to perform.

The players themselves will tell you this. We need both fans and players to play their part, we’ve got the potential to create such a great feeing at the emirates. It’s been so sorely lacking, and undoubtedly it’s affected the players.

Let’s hope Arteta can galvanise this squad. Like omo says, they aren’t expected to win the league this season, we just want to see them putting in a shift and giving their all. That alone will get the crowd on their side

Arteta wouldn’t have been my choice, I’d have gone ancelotti. But the more I think about it the more I’m willing to see what Arteta can do.

This season the aim should be top 6, a decent cup run and to be able to see a style and some tactics emerging.

I am still optimistic that the Arteta appointment will work out well.
The guy seems to love the club, is an ex player and comparatively young so should easily understand the mindset of the players.
I also think he is quite a tough cookie and will be ruthless when he needs to be.
Ancelotti could be yesterdays man, but only time will tell with his Everton appointment.

I think the players are going to be working a lot harder than they are used to.

I feel alot more confident about Arteta than before he arrived. One thing that should be considered though is he is still hiring staff to work for him so his training methodologies will improve when he has a full team on board and everyone has setlled into their roles.
It's still early days and he will need time.

Yep been impressed with what he has had to say about the mentality, work rate and commitment. I like it that he's explicit about every player needing to be onside otherwise they are out. I also liked that he seems to have very clear ideas about what needs to be done to make improvements. It really does seem like he has a vision and the know how of how to execute it.

Of course it's all words at the moment. The proof is in the pudding and Arteta needs to get this team winning again and the fans onside. I think one or two wins will do that and build a platform. We've got some really tough games coming up though, so it's straight in at the deep end.

Specifically he has said that players need to close down quicker and the space between the defenders and attackers needs to be closer, which is what I have been saying for months, so I am happy.

Dunno about that. He’s going through a goal drought for sure, but even then he still offers a lot to the team and is one of the hardest working players in the team.
