Doesn't matter that we've known for 2 weeks that we'd lose today as nothing can soften the blow of a defeat, even when it's away at the League leaders. Unfortunately we had to witness yet another game defining stupid mistake to give the penalty away and sorry guys but it was a foul as Ayling clearly strikes him on the knee and WTF he's doing on the ground swinging a leg at it god only knows. A real shame as well as we were holding them easily at that point.

Thought in the main Struijk and Firpo were excellent together but the less said about Captain Ayling the better. Must be something about playing away at Arsenal for Luke as he seems to make rash decisions every time we play there.

Personally would have like to have seen Gyabi or Archie Gray come on at 3-0 down but at least Rutter came on and showed an excellent piece of skill in the build up to our goal. These young lads are our future (hopefully) and along with Summerville, Gnonto, Aaronson and Adams there's maybe a glimmer of hope going forward.

All focus now shifts to Tuesday night but as usual we have injuries at the worst possible time and games are now running out fast.
That's fair enough re ayling....but I fail to see how the ref could have seen the slight knock on god, I feel he went purely for the dive which for that slight knock was ridiculous.....we would not have gotten the same I'm sure, perhaps we should practice the art more

Agree, It was a penalty, because Ayling kicked out. And he should never have been on the floor in the first place. It was also a shocking theatrical dive. If I was the ref I’d have given a penalty and booked Gabriel (I’m sure it’s not in the rules but hey)

The problem with parking the bus and hoping to nick one on the break.. which we actually did very well for half an hour… is what do you do if you go a goal behind? As you say Jambo, our defenders have taken it in turns to commit suicide all year… and maybe, just maybe, it has fck all to do with who is managing them.

Got to say, as soft as the penalty was, you have nailed it for me. Once Ayling went to ground (admittedly because Jesus mugged him off) why the hell did he flick his foot out. Stupid thing to do and we ended up with a decision by the referee that goes to the home side. Poor decision by both the ref and Ayling. Actually he had a shocker.

Maybe remove the keepers altogether and let the taker kick it into an empty net. We already do that
When we concede a penalty I think to myself stop wasting time, just award them the goal we’re never going to save it. Likewise a free kick conceded on the edge of our area, I always think the opposition have a great chance.

When we have a penalty I feel we have a 75% chance if it’s not Bamford or 50/50 if it is him, I’m probably being unjust but that’s how it feels. As for free kicks, I find myself hoping we can keep the pressure on by winning a corner.

Meslier has saved 3 out of 22 penalties faced in senior football. Dunno how that compares to the average keeper.

Where's Aski?

Do you know if that is actually saved… or opponent failed to score?

xg for a penalty is about .77 which means the average penalty taker across the top leagues will miss 1 in 4/5

So Mes’ saving (or the oppo missing) 1 in 7.33 doesn’t look great at first view

I don’t need stats to tell me he’s hopeless at them. Brilliant in many more ways but infuriates me when I see his pathetic attempts at penalties
