Now, this is an eventuality, rather than an immediate action. Harry has 1 year left on his contract, and his new contract offer was withdrawn given our horrendous end to the season. The article is from a questionable source, but, I'd like people's opinions. In essence, AVB to take over at WHL at some point? I think he wasn't given the time at Chelsea, and if it was accepted he had time to build, he'd do a great job for us I feel. He's got talent, but his reputation is somewhat in tatters due to his short stint at Stamford Bridge.

i dont think his reputation is in tatters...just like i dont think Di Matteo is world class after his season at Chelsea...just ask West Brom.i think most people are fully aware of how things happen at Chelsea....AVB is a bright young manager..i wouldnt exactly be disappointed if we got AVB as our manager for many reasons.
 
I think he'd be a huge culture shock for the players after 'Arry. It seems AVB was very fussy about the little things and made an overall far more strict regime for all the players. A bit like Ramos, I don't think his ideas would translate well in the UK and we'd be better off with 'Arry or another manager with more PL experience than him.

The type of football he likes to play would suit us and I don't doubt that he can become a top manager but the more I think about it now, I can only seeing it being another mistake and the first in another long line of managers who didn't last.
 
The article as you say is just speculation. AVB was stitched up by the Russian because the big boys in the playground wouldn't do as they were told (ie what the Russian had wanted in the first place.) RDM is a yes man who will do nothing to move the club forward with its next generation of players. Take the loathesome but awesome Drogba out of last season and they would have been up **** creek. The one who really looked stupid and treacherous over the AVB sacking was the mad Russian; He has the Champions League trophy now but at what cost?
As for AVB, he was mad to take the job. His boss sacks managers at the drop of a hat and any promise of a 3 year plan was obviously a load of crap. He seems a bright young manager, but I would like to see what he does at another club before taking over at Spurs.
 
I 'd tend to agree with Yid. I have a feeling it would be a mistake. He may well be more talented than his time with The Chavs was allowed to show. However, I also doubt his willingness, and ability to adapt. There were far too many mutterings coming from Stamford Bridge last season about his man- management skills - or lack of, for there not to be some truth in it.
 
He's a good manager, he just needs a team with less egos/player power. Tactically he's spot on, as he showed in his season with Porto but I don't know if he could cut it in the PL.

I think winning the Champions League and FA Cup with an underperforming side completely overshadows his season at West Brom (who were already a yoyo'ing side).

Yeah. Unfortunately, dealing with inflated egos is all part of the management skills needed nowadays. Trying to get today's bunch of multi- millionaires to do what you want them to do, is a feat in itself. As I've said before, the old " my way or the highway" approach doesn't cut it anymore. Not in the EPL, anyway. Even Fergie has to take more care with his hair dryer, nowadays.
 
He needs more experience himself to be taken seriously by experienced pro's. At the age he is now, Drog, FL, and JT were all similar age, and if I were them or anyone else, I'd be thinking who's this twat, whats he done?, and before anyone says he won the UEFA, my answer is a strong Porto side he inherited did. I don't think anyone is in a position to judge whether this bloke will cut it or not, so I'd prefer he tested his ideas elsewhere tbh....oh, and watching a game squatting at pitch level looks bizarre at best!

I agree, well most top players at a club are probably on more than their manager is so I think even that is a little undermining in itself. Harry has the man management side of things spot on, he's a figure of authority aswell as a bit of a mate.

True. It's a difficult trick to pull off. I had one American overall boss who could do it. He had the knack of being one of the boys when he wanted to, and he was accepted as such. But somehow, you never forgot that he was the boss.

agreed Notso. and for that reason, I don't think we could take that sort of risk, knowing it could be like Ramos all over again. I'd much rather have Jol back at the Lane. A decent, proven prem manager, who would have better players this time round.

When he arrived at Chelsea he said "Let's win the CL." His words were prophetic but he wasn't there to see it. In his time there I noticed a very immature streak ie complaining that QPR's ground was too small. Complaints like that are a sure sign of a loser and a cry baby. Few managers from Spain and Portugal in my opinion fit the style of the EPL as Ramos and AVB showed and I feel our style would be better suited to somebody like Bilic. Jol was perfect being a Dutchman and I'd prefer somebody from Germany like Dortmund's boss. I agree totally with Yid,AVB is not for Spurs. I also say Harry go now and thank you. Klopp or Bilic for Spurs.
 
I think Harry will see out his contract. Levy will see how things go in the season with a new contract dangling in front of Harry to be offered if X or Y is achieved. In the meantime I'm sure Levy has a list of managers to approach just in case something happens. Harry is getting on a bit, has already prostituted himself for the England role and somehow escaped the reach of HMCR. It would be extremely shortsighted if there weren't plans for every eventuality.
