Monsignor was a seriously good horse, I remember how easily he won the Neptune, he probably would have stopped Best Mate winning those 3 Gold Cups, had he stayed injury free:biggrin:

Why on earth do we have to have this debate again? I think we all know how it ended up on BBC606. Instead of appreciating both horses the forum divided into camps and the horses got slagged off; very disrespectful to horses that have given generations so much pleasure.

In terms of deciding who was the greatest of all it depends what criteria one uses and who is to say one set of criteria is more reliable than another. One thing is for sure, each racing fan will have a set view and will not budge so the only sensible thing is to agree to disagree and enjoy the present day.

I agree it's an interesting debate but one that cannot be concluded with agreement; hence it can go on and on until someone starts attempting to assert some sort of authority by ridiculing a fellow member's opinion.

If I spot that happening I will have to close the thread.

Trouble is I thought it was Arkle versus Kauto Star: not any horse. So my point about longevity and races run was between them.
I too thought Monsignor a highly promising horse. But you have to deal with the form in the book.

Anyways, they can keep their Kauto Star and Arkle, the horse below my name could have carried 14 stone jumped 16 or 18, 8 foot stone walls and still flogged them both.

One thing that realy winds me up, is when people come onto certain articles to moan about them. If you don't want to read a Kauto Star v Arkle thread then don't click on it, it's not difficult.

There are some people who just love an excuse to moan about something:biggrin:

I'm not saying anything in case I'm accused of moaning about someone who is not moaning about moaning, but moaning about people who moan for the sake of moaning.

I hope you are all following this. If not, feel free to moan about me
moaning about someone who is not moaning about moaning, but moaning about people who moan for the sake of moaning.

Monsignor would have given the lot 3 stone and a 30 length hammering with his hind legs tied together and blindfold....

On that note, should we close this thread ?

How many chances do you want Mays? Have you something against Shergar? Or do you think this is your old enemy SA from 606?
