True, but Webber has struggled with the Pirelli tyres and his natural aggressive style is not suited to the characteristics of the RB7 -two areas which cause Webber to underperform. Since 2010 - proven by Horner's quote above that Mifune posted: Horner :"However with the way Sebastian drives, it is logical for a team to develop its car according to his style. And that will inevitably happen in the (2010) RB6"
how do you know webbers " aggressive style " is not suited to the RB7 forza , have you seen something that i cant see that makes him any more aggressive than anybody else ? will agree he supposedly struggled with the tyres at first , how do we know other drivers didnt take a couple of races to adapt as they all had to make an adjustment , how long does it take a world class driver like webber to adapt -- not the whole season , as for mifune quote -- i would rather see a link first to see exactly what horner did say , however -- by that criteria all the teams are going to favour there respective quicker drivers when designing a car --- and that includes mclaren and ferrari --
This. Like you (martial artist) I love watching truly great sportsmen in their prime, I'd add others like Roger Federer and Ronnie O'Sullivan to the list Mifune corrected. I've felt for a while that Vettel was on his way to becoming a great, particularly after his first two wins. It's no surprise to me that he's dominating the sport, although I am surprised how quickly he's reached the level of performance he's currently operating at. I think qualifying is his greatest strength, he has the precision and confidence to place his car at the extremities of the track on the limit of grip when it matters. A number of times he's driven within himself this season because he knows his car will do the hard work, but today was another example of when he's had to fully unleash the car's potential just like Japan, Canada and Australia. I think he'll mainly dominate the next decade. I'd like to see him paired with Hamilton (at Red Bull) or Alonso (at Ferrari) in the near future though.
must admit the greats have allways initially attracted me to any sport that i have watched over the yrs , ironically this was not the case with formula 1 , my prefered driver was initially elio de angelis in my youth as my father owned a silly looking black and gold lotus road car and elio was driving a jps at the time - as for vettel he is clearly going to be very special , for me the thing that seperates him from most of the others is his intelligence at such a young age , i love to see a driver really using his grey matter on the track , combine this with breathtaking speed and you have a very potent force --
says who -- from where i have been sitting mclaren have a car equally as quick and at times quicker ----
I judge Vettel on his 2007 and 2008 performances, as they give a real insight to his ability, as his car was crap then. On that logic, it would appear that he has some talent. Forget the fluke win, just look at his performances in the second half of 2008. Consistently in the points in a car that had no business being there. He's done the midfield slog, like Alonso did, and he did it well, like Alonso did. Those two are future greats. And people criticising Vettel for being good over a single lap, thats ridiculous. Senna made a career out of it. Prost was a far better racer than Senna, but because of Senna's one lap pace, it allowed him to be in a prime position to win, much like Vettel. Statistics don't lie, Senna had far more poles than race wins, whereas Schumacher, Prost etc. had more race wins than poles.
I know you're playing devil's advocate, Canary; but I find no way of believing the 2011 Red Bull is designed around Webber. If anything, it is designed (focussed upon) his team mate: Vettel.
i have been watching the mclaren boys put it over one red bull for alot of the season , which tells me that vettels dominance is not down to the RB7 alone --
i have been watching mclaren very often being quicker than 1 red bull in qualifying for much of the season - as i said to the previous poster , this would logically tell me that vettels dominance in qualifying is not down to the red bull alone --
Car + talent + confidence + momentum + luck = Vettel's current success. We're in the presence of a talented, intelligent driver making hay while the sun shines. How he shines during darker days will show greatness, or not.
