Only a few weeks away now but Mrs luv is at it again, she announces she has booked a hotel to save us driving home and she's made up with the price. So I ask which hotel? The one next to the NEC is the reply. It's at Birmingham Arena I point out, "it's the same thing". It's about a 30 min drive, going to cost a bomb in taxi fares. After booking our holiday flight from Stanstead she's on a roll.
Not only the taxi fares but a completely over hyped band to boot .... they'll be on next year's "Dad's Rock" thread #Marillionesque
Well I'm going with my 19 year old son and my 11 year old son so that blows your theory out the water old man.
.... not really ... took my middle daughter to see the Chillis when she was 16 Just funning with you but it is a valid point that 'cool' bands do become Dad's Rock over time almost inevitably ... My own experience involved a trip to Nene College in Northampton in 1981 to see a little known up and coming Irish band .... I was 21 and they were excellent and edgy and the place went mad ... never thought they would ever be considered boring uncool or Dad Rock .... U2
Yeah you are right, mainstream rock will always have a hit or two that'll end up on a compilation album over time. I'm a fan of this band but as brilliant as they have been in their early career you can see them hitting mainstream status. The new album is an attempt to move away from it and Turner is trying to mould himself into Nick Cave and failing.
1st album = amazing. Rest is utter ****e. They're typical of a band that has a good album and live off it's success forever. I like their vibe but anyone that thinks their stuff post their first album is top notch is in denial. They've turned into an average brit pop rock band.
Favourite Worst Nightmare it's superb, Brainstorm, Florescent Adolescent, Teddy Picker all good and there are others. Humbug and Suck it have one or two good tracks but yes you have a point there. AM was a different sound but a very good album and the new album is very good but certainly not great. They are much better than the usual britpop bands. Live they have a very good reputation I'm looking forward to it, we play Spurs on the same day so I'm well up for it.
