I can take or leave Whitby, it's never really grabbed me as a place to stay, fine for a day trip, maybe it's just me.
My wife likes Richmond, may have something to do with that farm shop lol.
Going to try a couple of nights in Ripon, visit Fountains Abbey and Studley, gets us out of the house lol
They were our regular haunts when we had a caravan in Markington when the bairns were little, cracking site straight behind the Yorkshire Hussar pub.

Drumochter Pass is stunning in the sunshine, not so sure I'd want to do it in the middle of winter mind :emoticon-0102-bigsm
I don’t remember the names we drove through but the snow was down and the blood pressure up. <laugh>
I went to Oban in ‘84 on a family trip and wouldn’t mind going back to the west coast again.

If you do try it again I'd recommend early in the year as the midge can be a bit fierce in the summer.

You could always combine your visit with a trip to the horse racing though it does tend to bump the price of accomodation when there's a race meeting on.
Only done one meeting and that was Catterick while we had a caravan at Brompton. Got to say it was a great day but I’m not a racing fan but the experience was worth trying again.

Whitby used to be great but seems to be the place for people with silly facial hair or dog walkers these days.

Leyburn is a good shout for a North Yorkshire market town worth visiting.

Went up as far as Oban one year, very pleasant. It was my ambition, at that time, to go right the way up and over the top but with the popularity of the NC500 its lost its appeal, well for me anyway. It must be about 25 years since we took an extended holiday in Scotland but after being up to Nairn last year its definitely rekindled my interest. All you need is decent weather.
Staying overnight in Oban in May on our way to Mull for a week did the NC 500 four years ago after 9 days on the Outer Hebrides, it was wick with Camper Vans and motor cyclists, just wish some of the drivers using it knew how to use the single track roads:headbang:
Avoid the midge in the summer months we never go after May to Mid September they're not worth the hassle.
We've hardly missed a holiday in Scotland for years and the further up the West coast you go the more spectacular the scenery is, I call Scotland the Lake District but on steroids, it's huge.

New York in early November. I've never been, but always wanted to, so booked it. Otherwise, will play it by ear. Probably a few long weekends in the UK and will look for a cheap, short notice one during the summer.

I've had a look at some deals for a short break to Rome (somewhere I've always fancied going due to my interest in history), but so far best deals are for early next year.

Been there twice mate. Do it. We went for 3 nights both times, so much to see. We done most of the main ones like St Peters, Sistine Chapel, Colloseum, Trevi, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Spanish steps etc.

Stunning place.

There's a cafe there, with a curved wall, I've always wanted to visit which is actually where Caesar was actually assassinated. The Roman senate at the time was having renovation work done, so the senate met in a theatre next door, which is where he was assassinated. The wall follows the curve of the original wall, so that's the actual site of his assassination.

Edit .. I should add that I speak some very basic Italian as well, so it would give me a reason to brush up on it.

Aye, we went and done the tour around the old Paletine hill area next to the Collosseum and the guide mentioned that it was literally the first Roman road out of Rome that we were looking at.
Also went for a nice cold glass of white in view of the Pantheon. <cheers>

A few of my family have been quite a few times I’ve got info off them and fell as if
I know the place already it’s my first time but been to Rhodes a few times
I’ve been to quite alot of Greek resorts and different islands
We to Stalis in Crete most years and have been going since 1986 we love Crete
Give Stalis a try you may like it there is plenty bars and tavernas and the beach is excellent
There is still a Greek feel
However it’s like most places becoming very commercialised

I’ve been all over Greece over the years. Love the place. Went to Pefkos a few years back and just ended up going back all time. It’s nothing flash but just has something about the place. Loads of people return a lot and can’t put finger on why. We just end up sitting in my mates bar most afternoons. If you like your beer my mates bar is Cavo Pefkos. Usually has a pale ale an IPA and a stout on draft and a fridge full of different Greek beers. You’re going at a good time in May. I want to go in May but our lass isn’t having it. Lindos just up road is nice as well.
