Apparently a play about Sunderland is getting hit reviews in france - written by a french author who worked for a few months in Nissan Factory and went home and wrote a play about his experiences and it's called "Sunderland".
Apparently he thinks it rains so much it feels like you are in a washing machine - beer football and unemployment are the backdrop and the play portrays the north east as everything the parisians are not. One of the characters (Gaven) is described as awkward and unable to express his sentiments except when drunk and the only love he can talk about is Sunderland football club - he is apparently a shock to french audiences.
I knew our class would make the cultural headlines somewhere.
