Annie Nightingale has died aged 83.
A big part of my youth, always remember her presenting The Old Grey Whistle Test, taking over from Bob Harris. Along with John Peel, she really championed punk music.

This was one of her favourites, R.I.P. bonny lass.

Yes she was just a radio/TV DJ but she loved and presented some of the best music we've ever had.

I didn't like her personality and found her a little pompous but she was very good at her job and the bands seemed to respect her. Compared to the vacuous shallow wanabees, like Sarah Cox, she suddenly seems like an icon of musical sensibility and good taste.

Rest in peace, you seem to have lived the dream.
