The local businesses on Oakfield Rd are understandably worried they will lose out either through cpo or financially if further ground improvements get the go ahead along with new shops and bars and an hotel part of the rumoured plans.

they they are a bit down from where all these new pedestrian areas and hotel etc are mooted? I don't know why they'd be CPO'd necessarily.

The anfield road end land i think is already there now but whether we see it in 24 month time starting I don't know.

i don't know that a centenary stand will be seen within next 10/15 years.. that'd surely demand going close to arkles road?
 
one thing on anfield road end is all tickets in there is built will be general admission and not any premium seats.

This really is why its "marginal"
 
I think the way the club went about buying properties by stealth starting in 1996 was completely wrong. The area was arguably already in decline but buying houses and leaving them tinned up sped the process along. At some point they decided to be open and honest with the residents and jumping forward to today, they have listened to them and, for instance, scrapped plans for a footpath that would encourage fans to use one of the residential streets en route to the ground and also relocated lighting columns by resident request.

If the artists impressions turn out in reality, the area will improve dramatically, just a pity for those forced out of their homes years ago.

Yes i agree. my understanding is the centenary stand houses that would be bought out (again) we sold for nothing to a developer to "give back" to the community.

The reality is it was dishonest and frankly the same result would have been fast and easier with a proper council discussion and buy out process.

then again... who knows.

time management of Liverpool football club are looking for a way to increase the capacity.
At the moment, Old Trafford have the highest capacity, followed by Arsenal, West Ham, and Manchester
city respectively. Liverpool still fall short of city.
Football is now about generating revenue, and Liverpool will like to stand up and be counted.

Tbh like a lot of other reds I believed FSG had committed themselves to a full stadium upgrade when they chose the option of remaining at our current ground instead of a new build stadium.
The new stand might be ultra modern but the rest of Anfield looks out of sync with it, FSG should by now have paved the way for a similar upgrade to the remaining three sides of the ground to at least get Anfield up to 70k, as it stands our ground is never considered for other sports(eg Rugby League)semifinals or finals etc which rakes in more revenue for the likes of man u and city.

Can't help but feel FSG aren't prepared to go the whole hog and fulfill their promise when they purchased the club on the cheap, they seem to be happy with mediocrity and steadily increasing their assets worth through sponsorships and partnerships rather than through football itself, to keep up with the manc clubs, Chelsea and to a certain extent Arsenal and and not forgetting Spurs who will have a new build stadium with a bigger capacity than Anfield in a couple of years, they need to totally overhaul their strategy on not just enlarging the Anny Rd, Centenary and Kop stands but also wages, transfer negotiations and fees.

Come on FSG pull your collective fingers out.<grr>

In fairness mate, isn't the future capacity capped at 60k due to the road network? iirc that was the limit imposed by planners when the Shermans were looking to build on SP.

Yeah, but when initial plans were being negotiated with the council etc that side of the equation should have been sorted out then, it was all well and good for them to decide to stay but they were very cack handed in their approach to how they were gonna totally make our current home as good as a new build.
They decided the same option for Fenway Park when they purchased the redsox, compared to other baseball grounds it looks crap, yet they reckon its brilliant when the truth is they saved big bucks going for a makeover rather than building new.<laugh>

I'd think even the stinkiest capitalist with no interest in sports would realise the more successful the team, the better the sponsorship deal. That's if the stinky capitalist knows how to capitalise, which obviously leaves Tom Hicks out of the equation but not FSG.

FSG know the problem, because the Red Sox are the biggest MLB sellers away from home but the size of Fenway stops them being top for home attendance. And when they can attract the talent they don't mind paying for it - they just broke the record for a starting pitcher's contract.
 
,ook i've watched this debate for years... many peopel outside Liverpool would have the club and council level the entire area to build a mmassize arena.

the reality is the area we are in means the kop is as big as it's likely ever to be AND its as big just about as the redeveloped plans for the anfield road end would be.

the centenary stand would require masses of houses to be demolished (60?) AND there is not the transport links to service another 8/10 k on site.

We have permission for 60k.

Our plans said just north of 58k. We can get annother 4.8k into the anfield raod end and if we do that or a bit more to 60k i would be very very happy.

I HOPE we announce this building work shortly. The anfield raod end will have NO corporate boxes and be a pure fans end. The main stand is now for the rich and famous and so i hope the anfield raod end gets done.

The transport links?

There's miles and miles of unused railway tracks ten minutes on foot away from the ground, that's the same track that was to be used if we went for a new build on Stanley Park.

The houses would be a problem as you say(on the centenary side), but if LFC offered a decent price to owners and tenants instead of the pittance the council have with others who were given a CPO they might agree, it would make sense for FSG to do that considering the money they'd make in profit after a few home games.

Just feel that the current situation suits the owners more than the future of the club.
 
Can't remember where I read it but apparently do we have plans to expand Anfied Road end which would increase capacity to 60k.

Looking at the pictures, the new stand looks amazing IMO.
 
Last week £260m plans were unveiled to turn Walton Breck Road into a high street of new commercial premises & apartments.

For the locals on here, is this behind the centenary stand and the Kop? If so, this opens rooms for further expansion.

the point being unused <ok>

The station needs doing at a big cost. This would be at best part of a centenary stand rebuild and to get to say 75k.. which would be buy 60? houses and do this.

If the council would open the rail link that would be nice.

Didn't the club hand some of those houses to a developer to regenerate the area. those living in them would feel quite hard doen by.

My view is lets see if they do the anfield road end first.
