Would agree with that. Bruce saw Liverpool coming. Sunderland have half re-built there squad with that money. Craig Gardner (imo) is as good as Henderson. When Gerrard is fit ansd Lucas gets back, Henderson will have to sit on the bench. Johnson Gerrard Adam Downing (i expect to be there first choice midfield) With Kuyt - Lucas - Merealies also ahead of Henderson.
carroll, henderson and to a lesser extent wickham. these players are investments not costs. the money is so big now that they'll take somewhat of a punt on a semi-proven U21 player who has shown even flashes of being something special on the off-chance that they turn into something genuinely special.
We may have 'missed out' on Carroll but we went and got Windass, Campbell and Folan instead and that worked out okay.
