The three defendants are due to appear in court this afternoon. Meanwhile, Gigwa’s mum, Kiran Kaur, is awaiting sentencing for assisting an offender by taking the knife used to kill Henry to the family home. The 53-year-old will be sentenced on July 17.

I did wonder why the brother wasn't involved in court proceedings yesterday.He was heavily involved in the incident and also lied to the police...

To be fair, this may genuinely be the first time I've ever seen a report of a Sikh committing a crime.

Alas, he did and the coppers involved should have the book thrown at them for ignoring the victim

I don't know if anyone has been following the Nottingham inquiry into the three killed on the train, but the failings in the system are even worse than those surrounding the Nowak case. Several different official bodies admit that the race of the perpetrator affected how he was dealt with in the months prior to events. It was all very avoidable.

There are numerous others being mentioned too.

The system needs ripping apart and rebuilding.

I cannot defend the police, they failed to listen to Henry and that is disgusting behaviour and needs answers, with consequences. One of the officers has resigned.
There is a massive protest in Southampton outside a Police station.

But, there is more to this than what you may have seen reported. Everything led the officers to believe that Henry was drunk and had racially attacked someone. The whole family protected the killer, the mother took the knife and hid it, the brother lied when he called police and then the killer played the victim card. Male members of the family were in court today charged with having offensive weapons, including Japanese swords and weighted chains. The Sikh community, knew that the murderer had issues with knifes, he wasn't carrying a kirpan, he had a Persian style knife. The issue is that being Sikh he could legally carry a bladed knife that was up to 9 inches long and as his was "only" 8 inches, he could claim he was carrying it for religious purposes.

I read the riot act to the 3 youngest grandkids yesterday when they were niggling each other and kept slamming the front door on their frequent tell-tale trips to Grumpy Grandad!!!

I’m equally outraged by the footage of the inept policing which led to Nowak’s death. They simply got it wrong and a man died as a result. There are an awful lot of people making political statements based on this case. It confirms their political view. I strongly suspect the same people were not up in arms about the unfair treatment of black people in the past such as the unlawful death of Dalian Atkinson by the police for being black and having a mental illness. I am in complete agreement that policing should be carried out without any bias related to skin colour and needs to be an essential part of police training. However as humans we are designed to make assumptions about people based purely on their appearance and can be hard for some to suppress this.
As for the ceremonial knives, the call for banning them is laughable. This guy had malice in his heart. He had some sort of weapon obsession. If he wasn’t allowed to carry this ceremonial knife, a kitchen knife would have done the job. A well placed sturdy metal tent peg could easily kill someone, I doubt anyone would be arrested for carrying these. As previously mentioned I cannot recall a violent crime from a Sikh ever in this country.
I’m saddened by a growing part of our population who listen to right wing politicians and media who use these tragic cases to confirm their prejudice. They ignore the scores of equally abhorrent crimes committed by white people and the scores of non-reported stories of the police getting it right and doing an excellent job. We need to respect that they do a difficult job where at times people’s lives can hang on their split second decisions as in this case. Doesn’t mean we should ignore what happened and they got this so wrong the officers involved rightly should be punished and the training needs updating for all police. Some people need to get some perspective.
