or are there more charities on the box than ever before and how much is actually benefiting them that need it or is it just another scam to fill some rich boys pockets even the post code Lottery only gives 32% to charities it sounds good when it says 500 million has already gone to people who need it but does it really cost over a billion pounds to distribute it? Personally I have stopped giving to all large charities and mainly give to local what do you lads think?

You know, I seen an advert the other day for a charity and it wasn’t ‘donate what you can’ or owt like that it was ‘donate just £19’

I can’t remember which one it was but I thought ‘really?’. It’s not that I think £19 is an unreasonable amount of money, I’d just think the vast majority of their donations are from folk who chip in a few quid here and there.

That is the average salary for a CEO of a big charity, so not unusual. Most charities are big business these days all the way down to the "chuggers" who harass you on the streets so they can get their commission percentage. Falls in line with the rest of society these days where nothing is quite what it seems upon closer inspection and the mask of "charity" is a perfect way to hide your ulterior motives.

I much prefer to contribute to smaller things, dog shelters etc, where I believe every penny is actually a help to them.

The big name charities, as has been mentioned, well they are just businesses now.

As soon as you sign up for a monthly donation your info is distributed and you get inundated with requests to help other groups:emoticon-0121-angry. I'm with nads and rooch, give to my local hospice and any good cast offs to the salvation army shop, my dad said during the war the salvation army were the only ones at the front giving support and comfort, helping without an ulterior motive, so I will support them.

Donate to local charities for sure, when you consider that the Cancer Research UK CEO is on £250,000 P.A.

Not as much as the lass who is CEO at bet 365, now who on here contributes most towards Cancer Research or bet 365?

I don’t get the point though mate.

Betting is commercial business, they exist solely to make money, and as such their reward is based on making profit.

£250,000 is a lot of free food for people in need, what’s charitable about taking that kind of salary?

Totally different views. I take a salary from my employer based on making them money, not on doing good deeds.

I've no idea about the answer to your question BUT I can state, as a fact, that my ex B.I.L. (in addition to receiving a substantial salary, plus having all of his accomodation/living expenses met the full costs of educating & boarding his three daughters (at Malvern college) was paid for by Save The Children.

I can't help but wonder just how many of those placing their cash in the charity's funds know/question[ed] just how much was being spent on its employees - in his case it totalled well over 250,000 a year in the early '90's!

Nad s
That was the Salvation Army to help the homeless.
We donate monthly to Cancer Research as my wife is in remission at present, five years and counting, thank God and Royal British Legion which doesn't need an explanation.
Don't do any other's.

all charities are a con, they ask people to go collecting for them for nowt other than the satisfaction for helping people in need, yet every boss and the minions working for them give nowt to the cause only take and don't forget charity money is tax free, if they had any charity in their hearts they would and should give some time free.

My point was that both salaries are thought of as obscene, but one is 1400 times more than the other as people are using gambling more and more and then comment about the salary of the charity CEO

The salaries are shocking mate they are saying just give £3 a month and this can keep a child alive for a year not quite grasping that the top three salaries from them are condemning 28,000 children to death before they even see it.

The 2 things aren’t remotely relatable for me though mate.

The CEO of 365 is also a member of the family that owns it of course, and they make billions a year.

Taking £250k a year from a fund designed to help folk is bordering on criminal for me, she is being paid out of people’s good faith.

Agree, but compared to someone taking home £350m a year praying on the weaknesses of fellow man is worse in my books
