Altidore

Same could be said for Altidore really, Funky. If he'd been allowed to drift off left as he does regularly for USA, he might be better thought of here than he is. But Poyet wanted a lone man up front, and it just wasn't Jozy's game. The contrast between Altidore for USA v Denmark/Nigeria etc. and Altidore for Sunderland v Hull City/Villa etc. is striking.

Crazy thing we could have played Jozy to the side of a front three but never tried, yet Gus played Wickham there repeatedly. Probably would have failed even then as Gus had far to much distance between our front three. We were so easily forced into a 451 as a result. I noticed Dick had the front three playing much closer together and we created more as a result imo.

When you look at any of our strikers records when playing under Poyet, the fact Altidore is scoring now is interesting imo.

It would have been interesting to see what another manger could have made of Altidore. I could never understand how a player could be prolific at international level but couldn't even score a handful of goals in the premier league.

2 possibilites:

1. Our strikers aren't Premier League standard and weren't up for it, so Poyet couldnt get anything out of them or
2. The manager was **** at getting anything out of our strikers and ****ed up their careers.

The 2nd one seems likely to me at the moment, as even Defoe seems to have lost his touch under Poyet. Yes they had crap service recently, but that would have to be put down to Poyet as well.

Guess we'll find out in the next few games which one it is, if we start scoring again.

I think it's both to be honest mate. Poyet's not up to scratch as a premier league manager, Altidore's not up to scratch as a premier league forward.

The sooner we move on from both... The better.
