I thought he was one of our better players yesterday and did the role he was asked to do, play deep pick the ball up off the centre halfs and start the moves which he did, he made several key interception too which is what a defensive centre midfielder is there to do. as for scoring and assisting, that's what altidore giaccherini borini Ki and Larsson are meant to be doing.
He's a defencive midfielder, if you expect goals and assists from him I think that say's more about you than him. This is as stupid about those who get on AJ's back over defencive duties when he's an inside forward.
If the best one can do is criticize a player on attributes that tend to be poor on most players who play that role then it's a pretty poor argument sorry.

In fact, the only defensive midfielder I could find that caters to your demand is Yaya Touré who has 11 goals and 3 assists but we're talking £80m of player who's world class and can combine his defencive duties with being a box to box midfielder and a deep lying playmaker.
