About the winning thing, if I get the sense that somebody else thinks it is a contest. I'll go with it.

Psycho is great to talk with as it is all about examining why I hold a position rather than debunking it. If the pieces fall out of bed, then I'll debunk it myself. No worries at all on that score.

I can't listen to Tommy any more. He's doing my head in. The basic thrust of it is that the Huns have agreed a reduced bill with Hector. They'll pay off their football creditors and a p in the £ deal with other creditors. It doesn't sound right (special preference for football creditors.). But that is what he is saying. Take it for what it is worth.

EDIT: The two things being done at the same time means he is getting 2 stories and not one. It is just what he is saying.

Yes, I can understand that. And a differentiation needs to be made: if someone is spreading lies, that's maybe something else altogether. There is perhaps then an obligation to face such things down. I don't know. (Although I'm always grateful when someone takes the time to destroy a 9/11 conspiracy theory, say. These things, left unchecked, are highly dangerous and socially corrosive.)

Thanks. And I like talking to you because I learn new things and am led in different directions. I struggle to see the point, otherwise. It's a love-in.

And on that gay bombshell, I must go to bed.

He'll be back you know, as rangers do appear to be going down the pre pack route. He just doesn't see how that will affect their history and the mark it's going to leave.

I don't want to make a particular comment about the guy you're all talking about, because I don't know him and because I don't much like personalised insults. However.....

There is a gaspingly beautiful psychology paper describing a phenomenon that may be familiar to all exasperated smart people. It was written by Justin Kruger and David Dunning and it’s called Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties in Recognising One’s Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments.

Kruger and Dunning came to the conclusion that “people who are incompetent suffer a dual burden. Not only are they incompetent, but they may also be too incompetent to assay their own incompetence, because the skills which underlie an ability to make a correct judgement are the same as the skills required to recognise a correct judgement.”

I was reminded of this joyful fact whilst reading this thread.

Some of you may by now be nodding a weary (and yet strangely excited) assent at the timeless veracity of these findings.

If you’ve ever had the misfortune of personally engaging one of these vast, hauntingly empty heads, however – and I would strongly advise against it – then you may also be crying gently with an aching relief as you learn that boffins are on the case and that they’re busy categorising the lesser members of the herd. We may only hope that this leads to a rampant spate of highly illiberal arrests some time super soon.

And the sheer circular beauty of it all, of course, is that the mouth-breathing cat-stranglers will be nodding along, as well, perfectly incapable of recognising themselves in this picture, happily convinced that it relates to the other guy. They can’t possibly recognise themselves in the picture. Why? Because they’re dumb. Exquisite. This keeps everyone happy. It’s how the world goes round, with each of us fondly believing we’re just that tiny wee bit smarter than the next guy.

My motto: don't engage. Ever. It's simply not worth the bother.

I read that report (on your recommendation), very interesting and perfectly logical too, i'm surprised I never thought of it that way before, maybe i'm in the bottom percentile though I doubt it, so that that mean i'm one of the people the report is talking about <yikes>

You are the only person the report is talking about, Dev. I specifically commissioned the boffins to examine your behaviours. Sorry, I should have told you.

Actually:

This action alone sets you apart from the dobbers, you can relax.

We can all relax, in fact, and just settle back into laughing at the other guy. Gets me up in the morning.

Benjamin Hero used to tell me off for using too many full stops as an ellipsis..... I don't think I have ever used the correct number before or since. even though he isn't here any more. It is my thang. A trademark if you will.

My grammar isn't great. So much so, I'll change my sentence construction rather than look it up. I secretly hope than nobody has noticed.

And to think I actually studied Psychology at College. I mistakenly thought it would be fascinating, but like Sociology, it was pretty boring if truth be told.

And for the record, I know mine is not a great mind precicely because I get involved in these dopey battles.

Small minds are much distressed by little things. Great minds see them all but are not upset by them.
Francois de La Rochefoucauld

I have been quoting this dude since I first found out about him. Snappy quotes....... I don't abide by any of em.

Jesus. What is the correct number? That could start to eat away at me, although it won't.

People get too hung up on this. Just so long as we make ourselves understood, I'll settle for that. (I'll also change my sentence construction rather than confront grammatical rules I don't really understand or like. True story.)

I have some sympathy for that outlook. My mum was a (chartered) clinical psychologist and I was wading through her books from a very young age. Crushingly dull, just hopeless. Sure, some insights could be fascinating (at least the ones that I understood), but such an imprecise science is always going to set my teeth on edge eventually.

Still, it's a good stick to beat people with every now and then.

Three apparently....... It just doesn't seem enough. If it represents a pregnant pause, then in this fast moving world of ours, three dots is over like that *clicks fingers*. Four or more........ Gives you time to think <ok>

I'm glad it is not just me. Things do irk me (their, they're and there). I'll get over it.

Am I missing something but for one moment, I thought this post was about the three remaining groups interested in taking over Rangers
were not ruling out liquidation. Seems some idiots got carried away with themselves, I noticed one mentioned 9/11. Surely this is more
serious than 9/11 for Rangers fans.

Well maybe not for some of them if you consider the ramifications of 9/11. Meaning all the stuff about "war on terror" and "weapons of mass destruction". I mean what's more important football or folk in Iraq and Afghanistan getting the bollocks blown out of them? Ask George Galloway for some clarification.

HMRC checked for me: "it's not kosher - just more speculation"

I guess the boul Alex is talking about Tommy in Glasgow.....I am sure that has come as a huge shock to you all.

Wise words, mister, wise words. I'm not sure I've ever used less than four dots. Three dots could simply signify a full-stop gone a bit wrong, an oversight. Whereas four dots and more signifies a thoughtful mastery of any given subject, for sure. <ok>

Don't be hasty. Some things are actually worth not getting over.
