I've read articles about Alexa listening in and they all basically rehash the same handful of stories, the couple in Portland, a grandmother putting her grandchild to bed and maybe an anecdotal story. They all confirm that Amazon held the recordings and they weren't recorded in secret nor did they have any problems getting the recordings. If these people had read the information that comes with the Echo they would know that. Nobody has yet come up with a secret stash of recordings or been able to prove that they didn't turn the device on themselves. I think owners of the device are shocked that it records what you are saying to it simply because, as I've said a few times now, they didn't read the information that came with it.
For every article about Alexa listening in there are at least 100 about your mobile phone listening in. You even posted your own story about Appeltiser, which was kind of creepy btw that a 'private' conversation you had wasn't actually private. I read a story about a girl complaining to her boyfriend that she had a headache, she woke up the next day to find she'd been followed on her Twitter account by a migraine support group. There are hundreds of stories like this.
As I said yesterday, the added risk with your phone and invasion of privacy is that you take your phone everywhere with you. 'They' know where you are as well as every word you speak. And people are worried about Alexa. ....
