He's not going anywhere after the McNally mess and today's performance plus he's inexpensive.
Give him pre season a war chest (I hate that phrase) and 12 games to prove we can finish top 2.

What's Aidy Boothroyd up to? He was good wasn't he?

Didn't you win the prestigious Essex Senior Cup with him at the helm?

Well AN got a really good wrap from the fans at the end of that game. I think it took him by surprise. He was probably expecting some grief.

“That made it tougher, I feel like we’ve let them down,” said Neil of the fans’ acclaim. “I feel as if we’ve come up short as a group, as a club.” But he was not prepared to guarantee he will remain at the club for next season.

The man who appointed him, David McNally, resigned as the chief executive on Monday, a move that highlighted upheaval in the club as it digests a second relegation from the top flight in three years. “There’s a lot of soul-searching and discussions to be had to decide how the club is going to move forward,” said Neil.

“A lot has happened in the last week. At this moment I’m just trying to come to terms with what’s happened on the pitch and where we find ourselves. The club has to decide what road they want to go down. I want to sit down with the owners and have a good chat with them. I’ve got absolutely no complaints with anybody who’s been here. They’ve given me the utmost support, I can’t grumble with anything.”

I'd like to hear him say that he wants to sort this out and get us back up, but I guess you need to watch what you say at this stage in case the board have different ideas.

Likewise. Although I do fear that the soul searching he talks of also means being given the opportunity to be cut throat and say sayonara to some of the old guard. To build a legacy, he needs to be able to start again on his terms.

Granted if he feels he will be hamstrung by the board he may not, but PL clubs won't be queuing up for him after this season, possibly not even Champ clubs, so where does he go, let alone where does he go that is going to give him a better chance at promotion and getting back on the up?
He'll be here next season, if the fans have backed him to that extent on radio Norfolk then I can't see Smith n Jones sacking him either.

    Bah!

I am absolutely amazed by that. Last night was a complete one off against a pretty poor Watford side. It's very short sighted and a knee jerk reaction. He has failed in almost everything he's done this year!!

Taking all of that on board, I am still not sure how I feel. I think I want to give him another crack in the Championship. If we are nowhere near looking a side heading for promotion or top 6 at worst (by December), then I will say it's time to go.

Mate December is 5 months into the season, it will probably be too late by then.

I would also like to see Alex Neil stay and give him another chance to get us promoted, at least give him 4 or 5 months or less if we haven't won many games by then.

Last season was just as important to the future of the club, and we started it with Neil Adams at the helm. Even given our horrendous run up to Christmas, we came out of it ok. I can't see Alex Neil being as poor as Adams in the championship, so I'm more than happy to start with him in charge. Like Neil Adams though, if we're looking short of the play-offs then he has to go.
