Used to drink Snakebite at Uni. Every Friday, pints of snakebite and bottles of elephant lager to top it up with. It's a wonder I have any memories of my uni days.....

Sauvignon blanc for white, Like the St Emillion Bordeaux reds (they’re all nice, the 4 I’ve tried anyhow but the Morrison’s one is lovely)

Beer wise I like a blonde normally. Brew dog punk IPA

I know that the majority of us on here enjoy a little libation 'from time to time' and this thread is to share views about our favourite tipples, so it only seems right that we provide a very important public service by sharing our experiences (good or bad) especially if we can offer any new revelations on the liquid refreshment front.

I'm a real ale drinker when I'm out, but I do enjoy a wine or two, red or white, and some spirits.

My favourites . . . .

Hobgoblin (ruby) if available, otherwise Guinness (when the former's 'off' in Alum House next to 'Sheels ferry)
I've always got some Guinness and Old Speckled Hen in the fridge

Mrs. A's favourite when we're out is Erdinger, a wheat beer (which was taken out of Alum House yesterday 'cos the supplier insisted on it being £6.30 a pint (which I was paying last Saturday)

Various wines, but I prefer Australian Chardonnay for white and Australian Merlot for red . . . . Yellow Tail or Wolfblass have been favourites for a lot of years for white and McGuigan Black Label for red, though '19 Crimes' can't be faulted for their range . . . . lovely stuff.

Whisky (with a couple of ice cubes) . . . . Glenfiddich is my favourite, though I do like Glenmorangie and Glenlivet (it seems like it needs to be Glen and a malt)

Rum (with a touch of blackcurrant) . . . . ordinary Lambs or my favourite, Mount Gay, now, which I discovered a few years ago in Barbados

Brandy (with a touch of lime) . . . . Remy Martin, either 'ordinary' the '1738' version, or XP

I've always got some of all of the above in, but I'm not an alcoholic :emoticon-0145-shake

Now that I've given my Christmas list, what would be on yours ?
I live in the heart of a South Australian wine district and Yellowtail and Wolff Blass (along with McGuigan) would be some of the cheapest over rated wines that are produced in Aus.

If you want a good red then look for any of the Wirra Wirra range (5 minutes down the road and you can't go wrong)

For whites i prefer a nice NZ sav blanc, Oyster Bay or Montana would be the tipple of choice.

For quaffing wine the Aldi branded 4 litre crisp dry white at $9 (about 5 quid) can't be beaten.

As far as spirits go i prefer bourbon to scotch. Makers Mark or Blantons for me. That being said a nice shiraz gin is not to sneezed at.

****, when i read that back i guess i'm a piss head :)

The Montana is nice and we keep a few bottles of that in. I am a mainly french white wine man, with sancerre being a favourite, although it has tended to become a bit poorer recently I think. A good Chablis still takes the beating for me though.

What I don't get is all these fruity beers. Got an introductory offer from one of these breweries and they sent me a case of lagers/IPAs and the like. Some of them were grapefruit flavoured IPA, or strawberry lager. What in God's name is THAT all about? Minging

I was mate, lived in Lambton with parents from 1980 till 1989, then got a house with the mrs in Ayton and lived there from around 1989 till about 2005, then moved to oxclose till 2015. Now in Crookhall, Consett....here for good now.

What comp did you go to mate? I was in Biddick up to 1990 when I moved, just out of school.

I'm a lager lout. Now on mainly the premium bottles, depends what's on draught when I'm out (about 3 times a year). Could never get into the ales.
