For once, I have to agree with Vetch. Laudrup was doing his job. There's not room for sentimentality in the PL.

I don't think everyone agrees that Laudrup did a good job the first season. But things went rapidly downhill after that, and that is the reason he was sacked. Laudrup dumped Tate because he wasn't up to the job, and you say that is just Laudrup doing his job, which I agree with. But just like Tate, Laudrup did a good job and then wasn't up to the job the next season. So Huw was just doing his job.

Laudrup dropping Tate, and Huw dropping Laudrup are similar decisions.

At the risk of repeating myself again,I never criticised Jenkins for doing what he thought was right when he decided to sack Laudrup. I was not surprised by his dismissal.
The nature of the dismissal,however,was a different matter altogether.

Better you go back and you will discover I wasn't referring to "Dragon's comment". Consequently, I am unable to satisfy your request.
 
You can only warm to the way Tate has been so dedicated to our club over the years, some will say he had no options to move on, and that may well be the case, but it never ever stopped him giving 100% for the Swans, he really loved our club, and it must be hard for him to let go even if he knows he's not at this level, Tate, Britton, and Magic Daps will always be remembered in connection with the good years of our rise to the top, and rightly so.........................<ok>
 
My memories of Tate are this;

League 2 - Did reasonably well but always looked slightly out of position too me, giving opponents too much room
League 1 - Tried very hard but it was in this period that I came to see him as our weak link...ironically this was the time he was cementing himself as a firm "fan's favourite"!
Championship - Surprised me by how well he adapted and became a very useful utility player at that level.
Prem - Must be one of the poorest players ever to turn out in a Prem game (IMO). Was always on borrowed time.

Laudrup - totally understood him sidetracking Tate. He was poor and I wondered what on earth someone who had played at the top level would make of the likes of Tate being in the squad....the answer, he gave him a couple of chances (presumably because he was a "club legend") and Tate, predictably, blew the audition.

After that Everton game Tate spoke out in the Evening Post criticising his team mates (thinly veiled digs at the new boys), astounding....jaw dropping (considering just how bad Tate's personal performance had been).
Laudrup never picked him again and loaned him out ASAP. Which is exactly what I would have expected from a competent manager in such a situation.


He deserves his testimonial though as he played a lot of games and always gave 100%.

Guys like Tate and Monk helped Swansea get to the Premier , they werent Premier quality but never changed who they were , the same cant be said for a section of fans though.Will be criminal if Tate doesnt get his testimonial and will say more about the club than the player

He should have had this all ready. Was'nt delayed for some reason.
 
Tatey was a Swans legend and rightly so. But Laudrup is a legend in world football. Ask any football fan in Europe if they've heard of Alan Tate or Michael Laudrup. Bet you won't be surprised at the replies. Not knocking Tatey but it's true. It's unfair to compare the two really. Like watching a fight between Pee-Wee Herman and Mike Tyson.

FACT
 
The only comparison that matters to me is length of time with Swansea City Football Club and there is no comparison between Laudrup and Tate , except to say Tate is Tyson
