I was listening to talksport earlier and they were saying that Ken Bates could not afford to sign Alan Smith as they could only pay 1 million of his 3 million wages he gets at Newcastle. Ando and Benno were speculating that he would probably sit out his contract at Newcastle as he is now 32 or Newcastle would have to pay his contract up by coming to a compromise.

I wonder how many players are prepared to do this? Nozworthy?

Gone are the days where players would play for nothing and that says alot about the state of football today.

Simple answer? Greed, how much is enough? he's already a millionaire so I can't imagine much more would make a difference to his lifestyle when he finishes playing.

At his age and with the way the last few years have gone, I'd have thought he would have wanted to end his career playing rather than as a has been just content to pick up the money. But football players live in a different world to the rest of us, so **** knows what goes through their heads.

Thing is with Smith, wouldn't he love to go back to his home town team, maybe help them up to end his career??

He is the worst of the bunch for me, surely that would out the cap on a very canny career, instead he'll be a forgotten man.

Prick.

Thing is with Smith is he's a crock and his career is effectively over anyway. He could walk away from a huge salary for a new club on a low wage, get crocked in his first game and be retired

Sadly this is very true indeed...
