Good argument for Alan Perdew there Hoddle, you had almost convinced me too. He (Alan Perdew) is, no doupt, a good managers and he is another local (Venables, Rednapp etc.,) but I think the F**k-ups at both Chelsea and Klanfield are making it far to easy for the likes of Pardew, Lambert, Moyes and Purlis to look good.
Spurs should not be taking the 'Chance-Card' at this stage on a manager that has not got the right experience IMO.
The 'Next Step' has been mentioned several times on this board. None of the afore mentioned managers would even be considered at places like Chelsea ManU or ManArab. Those clubs have serious Champioms League aspirations and so should we.
If we're going to take a step up from 'Arry, the following managers (which are realistic targets) should be on Levy's list:
Louis van Gaal (currently unattached)
Carlo Ancelotti (possibly at PSG for a single-season payday)
Guus Hiddink (Signed an 18-month deal with Anzhi, but Russian clubs have itchy trigger fingers)
Didier Deschamps (free at the end of the season)
Laurent Blanc (free after Euro 2012)
All of them can be relied on to not just steady the ship, but to take the team forward. There's a few others that could offer something (Felix Magath, Dick Advocaat) and a couple that would be a potential gamble (Villas Boas, Slaven Bilic), but those on the above list are all within our means and could be open to the job.
completely agree with nearly all of that Bajan.
- Moyes, to me doesn't fall in the same catrgory of the "managers that look better". i think he's genuinely very good. The only thing that concerns me is why he's been at Everton for so long with no money, when he could have moved to numerous clubs with in the last 10 years? some could question his ambition.

HBIC, 3 out of 5 of those mentioned as "the ones that should be on levy's list", haven't actually managed in the premiership. i'm not saying they wouldn't do well, but are you happy to take that risk after what we've witnessed in the past? - and more importantly, what we've recently seen at chelsea. it frightens the **** out of me, if i'm completely honest.
A fair point, albeit one that implies Rafa Benitez is a safer pair of hands to put our team into than Van Gaal, Deschamps or Blanc.
The problem is that managers who do have Premier League experience that can be considered realistic targets for us are considered this for a reason - either because they failed somewhere else, or because Chelsea sacked them. Moyes is the only manager in the Premier League wwe can consider attainable that stands out, given his experience and is capable of getting Everton playing good stuff yet retaining some steely resilience to them (whilst the likes of Lambert, Martinez and Rodgers lack experience of working with "bigger" clubs at this point in their career)
Yes, there are managers whose inexperience saw them crash and burn (i.e. Gross, Santini, Ramos), but plenty have come in and done alright - Wenger, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Mancini et al.
I know that this has been discussed, in passing, in general thread, but there hasn't been a thread devoted solely to the topic.
When he replaced Chris Hughton, I was dead-set against him, but I am prepared to admit that that was primarily down to the way in which the Toon's owner treated him, and I thought that Chris deserved to have a crack at the job, with the club in the EPL. However, it has to be said, that I think Pardew has done a superb job with the Toon, especially bearing in mind the fact that they lost three influential first XI players, and have not replaced them. If they manage to finish above the Chavs, that would be the greatest feat of the season, in my view, and it would put Pardew right up there with the best English managers in the game.
Now, I know he isn't the big name that most Spurs fans would want at the club, but I cannot be alone in thinking that he'd do a great job for us. Sure, we'd probably lose Modric, who may see the appointment as a backward step for us, but we'd get good money for him that could be used to strengthen the squad. And Pardew has shown that he can get his squad to perform, even with the loss of key players.
Yes, I would rather that we had someone like Hiddink or Mourhino, but I certainly wouldn't be too upset if we end up with Pardew.
Lets hope we get a manager that can speak fluent English, Ramos and Santini were unmitigated disasters.
Did you purposely leave 'Arry off that list?![]()
