Agreed. But it'd only take a few turds, a few of 'the market knows best' types to undermine it all.

Hopefully, generations to come will just see it in the history books: part and parcel of the disgusting imbalance and unpalatable decadence of our times.

All that money spent to win a league, or reach a league where the rewards are greater than the league the team left.Gary Neville has a point about introducing a levy on agents fees.Yet at the foot of the BBC article on agents fees : 'In the National League, Salford paid out £76,338 to agents - more than eight clubs in League One and 21 clubs in League Two'.Even playing field and all that.

And at least 5 were involved in the Sala deal.

Greedy and sordid.

The role an agent plays is far more than just advertising players. There are some terrible agents and some awful one's but some of them are actually okay. A footballer would have no idea where to start with negotiating a contract, and how to check the contract and the minor details to make sure they are correct.

I am not defending agents, and the current system is broken as far too much money is going out of the game. However, the role itself does involve a lot and for some of the players at lower levels (League one and maybe League two) the role they play in managing a player and making sure he is looked after so when he finishes the game he is financially sound is huge.

I deal with quite a few agents, and most of them guys are okay, there are some awful one's but some do actually have the players best interests at heart.

Well they have enough spare time on his hands to go to college, or wherever, to ****ing learn how to, imo. No, they would sooner sit on their arses and play computer games than go out and learn things.

If true, these figures for Liverpool are ridiculous. I arent saying agents dont have a place in modern football, but 44m pounds in one season?

As others have said, what could the FL or FA do for grass roots football with that amount of money. It could even invest in lower league clubs. Imagine if they used the money to build decent stadiums for lower league teams and then charge rent to the team. The FA or FL would then have assets in their possession.

The amount of money that is coming into the game (which won’t last for ever) and all that seems to happen is that it is just frittered away to anyone who can get their grubby paws on it.

That sounds a lot like you are defending agents though

I'm sure some of them do a good job but can you really justify the money for what they actually do ?
