Was speaking to a mate earlier who's brother works very high up in the club, I can't name him for obvious reasons. He's told me we are very close on a deal for Defoe, fee agreed apparently and just personal terms to agree.

He could be trying to wind me up but he isn't really the kind to do that. He's given me info in the past and he's usually spot on.

Don't shoot the messenger, I read plenty of info from you lads, and I'm just trying to return the favour. Lets just hope my mate is spot on again. This could be a big one for us.

This would be amazing. Someone with pace who just loves to shoot. Altidore seems to await a written invitation from the President himself
 
No disrespect to the OP, but I'm a bit sceptical about this.

Reason being that if I had a £ for every time I've read that we're about to sign this bloke, on this forum, I'd have, well, more than £1 in my pocket.

It will never ever happen. For one, I dont think that Tim Sherwood will release such a top class proven striker unless they had another one far better lined up.
They dont.

Secondly, there isn't a cat in hells chance he would leave London to join a relegation scrap but I could see him joining the scum up the road as they are top 6 at the minute

Thirdly I dont think we have the wages to pay him (he must be on at least £130k a week now and would wnat a big rise to move north anyway)

Fourthly, if we got him and were relegated his wages alone could bankrupt us.

This will not happen imo.
 
Just can't see it myself, but there again, I thought we'd win yesterday, so what the **** do I know!!

This is first I've been able to come back on here. Was just too ****ing angry and disillusioned yesterday to log on.
 
Just passing info I've heard. I wasn't sure on it myself, but Defoe the fact that Defoe hasn't featured for spurs much this season gave me hope it could be true.
 
Has a deal not already been agreed for Defoe to sign for Toronto FC, probably completed this week according to the Mail.
 
Don't want him. He's better than all our current strikers, but only for half the time. The other half he makes Jozy look sharp.
 
Phil Vickery was on talkshite earlier saying we have made an offer for an Argentinian striker currently playing in Brazil.

Would make sense, I don't think we have much chance of signing anyone decent from Europe due to our league position, with Gus's South American connection it could be true.

We were linked with Scocco in the summer, he is a class player and scored some great goals at Newells Old Boys.
I hope this is true.
