Thought he was very good yesterday. You saw as clear as day how much better he is than Jones when he replaced him against Boro. Got forward well and provided a cracking cross for what should have been Grabban's second and the winning goal. I think it gives Coleman the option to try his 5-3-2 with Matthews and Oviedo wide of 3 centre backs.
I'm starting to quite like him, solid enough at the back and has quality going forward. He kind of looks like he's shuffling around but when he gets moving he's surprisingly fast. Thought he linked up well with Mac, as did Oviedo and McGeady.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Obviously just from our previous attempts at it - I suppose one manager has to get it right eventually!! Like Matthews actual.ly - I was one of those who thought Jones would be OK at this level - he's not! He's just not!! Matthews had a poor game earlier in the season and looked absolutely shot confidence wise as the south stand got on his back at every opportunity. He looked scared to pass a ball to anyone. But he seems to have come through the other side of that (Think Grayson deserves some credit for that TBH) and looks a better player all in all. Re the disallowed goal - I still can;t see what it's given for - text updates said it was for a "foul in the build up" but the whistle didn't go until the ball went into the centre? Grabban just poached the goal from what I saw at the match and on the highlights. Strange decisions
One at least looks a footballer, and it aint Jones. Our full backs are not the immmediate problem imo, its the goalkeeper and central defenders that worry me, Coleman's first challenge is to find a half decent combination out of the players available until we reach the January window, in which a goalkeeper and two championship standard center backs are an absolute must.
Three at the back, with wing backs, is a very a fluid formation, if the players have the nous and pace to make it work, but I cant see it in this squad, perhaps Coleman can, who knows. I must say I'm looking forward to watching the new manager in action, and hoping that sometime soon I can be saying the same thing about the team, whatever the formation.
If we went 3 at the back with wing back, I could see it working. Coleman has favoured it with Wales. Beadling maybe gets a look in, maybe Rodwell CB, still think he could do a job there.
Nah mate I don’t buy into all the scapegoat ****, he’s tidy on the ball and half decent in the air, he doesn’t influence the game from midfield but he could be quality as a ball playing CB in a 3 with Wilson and Beadling. He’s worth a punt there, he’s got to be.
I don't think he's got the heart for it but I'd like to see him given a go there so we could see either way. It'd be useful to have a CB who can bring the ball out, we get nothing from pumping it forwards aimlessly.
That’s my thoughts. We’ve nothing to lose, we’d keep better possession and he’s not nearly as bad a footballer as many would have us believe.
I think in midfield he does the minimum and doesn't do anything wrong but he doesn't do enough right to justify his place, but in defence someone who doesn't stand out but doesn't make mistakes is fine. Worth a try innit seeing as we're far from flush in good CBs.
It’s got to be worth a punt. I only have any confidence in Wilson as it stands, I hope a deals there for Kone on Jan 1st to give Coleman some money.
Yeah we need to give Coleman some money to spend one way or the other because there will be quite a few decent players he could probably get on the cheap who would be bang up for playing for him. It'd be a shame if we couldn't take advantage of that. Looking forward to seeing the back of Kone, piss taking twat.
Surely Bain is working on that deal now, I’d take £4-5million just to have him and his wasted 50k a week cleared.
His improvement may well increase with CC's confidence and belief in him - I can see a massive boost in our club performance - we'll find out tonight how we stand
