I think the moral of the story is kids are off limits on GC .
You can rip the piss out of my wife mum dad anyone but I would happily stick my thumb inside another person's eye socket like a bowling ball if anyone wronged my children even slightly.
That is a line you don't cross so even though you were making a harmless point it can easily become personal .
