Funnily enough I saw a story that stated Di Canio wanted Rooney from the Gills and Benson from us, so there might be some truth in it. What do you know brb ?
Rooney had not been in the team for a while, although still training and putting in the commitment. Hessy had left him out of the side, due to
on going negotiations as
his contract runs out in the Summer. However, he reappeared in the Crawley game in our 2-1 win until he received his second red card of the season!
Jack Payne another young prospect had already extended his contract with the Gills.
It was rumoured that
Di Canio was showing an interest in Rooney (I'll leave it at that, read in to that what you will).
Players like Jack Payne and Luke Rooney are our future, one is more level headed than the other. The trouble is some of these young lads see the £££ signs and how do you protect them from themselves or their agent and the prying eyes.
Simply put, I don't trust the whole timings of this episode, which appeared to rear its ugly head sometime after our game against Swindon at the end of October.
Hopefully we can sort this out with the lad, as for Swindon and Di Canio, I will refrain from any comment
