I worry for him a bit at Fenerbache. He was saying it’s the style of football that’s important, which absolutely not true over there. They’ve not won a league for Donkies years and all the fans want is a trophy I’d have said. Mourinho will be a disaster as well. He also mentioned German coaches are more successful in English football than Dutch. Can’t really argue with that.
Wasn't he sacked because of boring of football and lack of attacking intent? Guess our current situation forces him to eat his words so he has to come up with new excuses.
He was. Maybe he believes the 2 are linked (lack of experience and boring football with lack of attacking intent)? "I don't see his reasons have changed. He (LR) talked a good game. Openly promised exciting attacking football (from the off and very specifically during summer 2023). It didn't happen. I guess Acun was taken in and gave him the opportunity despite his lack of experience, but found the talk didn't match and that he was lacking (inexperience showing through). Anyway, it's the past."
He was so taken in, that after the first year, he gave him a new three year deal and we all knew what we were getting then. Ironically, the football in the last few months of last season was more attacking anyway (Plymouth aside).
Once it became apparent in April that we were slipping behind in the race after a really poor March and only wins would do, yeah
It had nothing to do with the style of play it was because in dec/Jan time we were in and around the play off places, Acun spent a load on new better players and we got worse. Not helped by a piss poor performance at Plymouth when there was still all to play for.
He still believed in him at that stage and supported him further in that window. What he promised just didn't materialise, bar occasional glimpses, and following their chat where he refused to change, Acun lost faith and decided a change was needed. It's all been explained, well documented and isn't difficult. No need to rewrite history nor to keep harping back.
We spent a shed load on new players in January but surely it would have taken ‘3 International Breaks for them to get match fit & familiar with the style of play. May, at the very earliest,
Philogene missed 1/3rd of the season Delap missed 1/3rd of the season Carvahlo missed almost 2/3rd of the season Giles and omur have flattered to deceive ever since they signed
The new players were few in number, came into a settled established squad that were in a play off place with a coach and his staff long bedded in. Hardly the same as 23 out, 17 in, new coach & staff new to England, etc etc.
Haha the desperation of some. If you can’t manage to project a system, to a new workforce, in 4 months then management is not for you,
The problem is, it doesn't make sense. We sacked a manager who for 2/3s of the season had us in the top 8 despite having Lokilo as the only right winger, no fit left back, no real depth and players being played out of position regularly. The Jan business clearly changed Acun's thought process but its completely flawed. It was pointless going for it in January. The irony is, TW has reigned in his kamikaze style in the last 2 against better sides and we've done well. Funnily enough, the entertainment value is now similar/worse to what was served up last season, which he cited as the season he sacked the manager for. But we're taking points so credit to TW.
It's no different to the desperation you show but in the opposite direction though is it And let's not twist the truth, he hasn't had 4 months to work with the starting 11, let alone the full squad. So with you bringing 4 months in to it, shall we give him 4 months from the close if the transfer window before we judge him fully?
Walter should get some leeway due to the club having attempted to but failed to bring in a half decent forward
TBF I think some are just against him because of their high opinion of LR and dislike of him being sacked. We could be sat in the playoffs now and Ben for example would still want him out. Which is fair enough he's every right to his opinion, but the hypocrisy of some of his comments are funny. Fwiw I think tim is about 3/4 points off where we probably should be at this stage so he's slightly underperforming, but the last 2 games have shown real improvement over the Norwich disaster and we have looked much better defensively. If we can find a way to marry the improvement defensively with the attacking performances that saw us 10 in 3 games then I think we'll be a really good team challenging for the top 6
My opinion on TW is based on facts, He has had more than enough time but has improved nothing. He still doesn’t know his best XI. We are less entertaining than last season. Our results are worse than last season. Our league position is worse than last season, Other teams have employed new managers & hit the ground running. After a full pre-season & 11 games we’re not even crawling. Having more new signings should make it easier for him to project his style of play, I’d guess (providing he’s not totally inept) that this style was explained to all players before they signed. It’s on him that they’re not grasping it. He used the phrase “heart attack football”. It is, but with no end product. The stats don’t lie. Acun wanted entertaining football, we’re not coming even slightly close. TW is ****. Acun dropped a bollock employing him. He shouldn’t let ego get in the way of sacking him.
