Lennon stands those crosses up to the back stick all the time, it amazes me Ade has taken so long to get on the end of one and score. Sometimes I think Lennon is unfairly slated for poor delivery when its a cross into a good area, but no-one's there. Just as many of Bales exquisite crosses, dying to be tapped in just go begging, but he isn't harangued for poor delivery. I blame the strikers, they should have one thing on their mind when AL's away on a run, cover the areas in front goal and be ready to attack it, and I don't think that happens enough, if at all some games! Movement, awareness, timing of runs has been pretty poor for the majority of games, the pair often heading to the same post! <doh>

We have two coveted wingers yet have trouble scoring goals, i always wonder what a really top striker would do with the potential of that service from those two.
 
Very true, Notso. Poor communication, but maybe that's why Villas-Boas has left them in the side together for quite a few games?

Really? I think Lennon looks for cutbacks more often than not. I agree that Lennon puts in some good dangerous balls but there are a lot of other wingers who can look up and pick out a player's run, Lennon tends to be more head down and put it into the right kinds of areas, when he does look up he usually ends up static and having to pass it backwards. It's just the type of player he is, as long as he's not trying to stick rigidly to the wing and cross it in from the byline it works okay.

'All the time' is just a term, I didn't mean it literally as the only thing he does, is 'regularly' better? :)
 
ive never seen him put in a single cross from the wing....have i not been watching? not criticising just pondering.

Not really, as I can't recall the last time I saw Lennon deliver a cross like that. YV's right, his 'regular' preferece is to look for the cutback or low into the near or middle area, as opposed to high to the back post.

I was just disagreeing with what you were saying about him doing it all that often as it's not the impression I've got of his play. Eitherway I'm in agreement that it's about time a striker started making some good runs for him to hit.
 
i think the reason lennon looks for the cutback is that allows him to quickly.change direction if he chooses to fake the cutback.

He doesnt seem to have the instinct for first time crossing from the wing, yet didnt he put in a cross from the wing agaisnt newcastle on the opening day when bale hit the bar? so thats one cross!
 
Agree with most.
I think AL has improved in most areas, but agree that a lot of his crosses tend to be cut backs, isn't it then the responsibility of the midfielders following in to be more incisive?
 
Just saw Lennon's goal against Sunderland. Showed excellent anticipation, reaction, quick thinking and composure.
Lennon's form has definitely improved and AVB seems to be showing great faith in Defoe and Lennon, both of whom have flourished!

May it long continue and Hodgson recall Lennon for the England set up.

Yeah, I'm actually hoping that Hodgson picks Walnut over Lennon.

Mind you, Walnut will probably be telling Roy that he doesn't want to play on the wing, and as he's no where good enough as a striker to replace the likes of Rooney or Defoe, it'll probably mean the end of his England career.

Perhaps I'll retract the number of any type, and say a lot of his crosses/dinks/cutbacks go begging...is that better? :)
 
Agree with all that's been written about the little man, can't praise him highly enough. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that he's far more likely to be seen tackling back (as the EPL's smallest player,) than his far bigger ex left-back opposite number on the other wing. If there was no Bale (god forbid) maybe he would get more plaudits. For me Lennon and Bale pick themselves when fit. Is there a more deadly pair of wingers in the prem? Because I can't think of any. Shame we haven't got a striker who can make the most of what of they produce. Still, who knows what will happen in the window?
 
I thought Lennon played very well last season in a 4-4-1-1 formation which suited him better. He played wider, used his pace more effectively to stretch the opposition defence and get beyond the full back, creating space for vdV, in particular, but also Bale when he came inside. The issue always for him is the consistency of his delivery. He was pretty consistent last season.

He seems to have done well this season from what I've seen- like the goal at Sunderland, but a lot of his good work seems to be coming off his wing. He played in a 4-3-3 for a large part of the season, rather than a 4-4-2. He looks best as an out and out winger, hugging the touchline and looking for the ball in behind the full back. He doesn't want to play like Valencia, who has lost his way at times this year. He seems to have given up running into space and crossing first time in favour of cutting back inside and passing square or backwards. Very frustrating :huh:.

His account disappeared the system. It's a random problem that appears to occur occasionally on the site and only to users banned from one or more boards. You might remember it happened to Ensil way before he was banned and Jayram too. All his posts have essentially fallen off a cliff into obscurity but it looks like he's somehow managed to keep all his negative rep! I suspect the Scousers <whistle>
