This is where you went wrong
Most English teams contend with mediocrity and relegation battles. Only the very few enjoy the spoils of trophies and european competitions. Good clubs like Bolton, Newcastle & Fulham etc would give everything to be in what United consider a worthless junior european cup competition.
Such is the hubris that is Manchester United, from the manager down to programme sellers and plastic armchair fans who couldn't find Manchester on a map of England for thousand pounds. This my friends is why your hated so much, not for your fantastic haul of trophies or riches but for your pomposity & arrogance to concieve that such a thing could happen.
Your red tinted glasses thickened with bravado blinded you so much you never saw it coming. That's why it hurts so much. Humble pie served in large portions will have you all showing a little more humility in no time.

I have the United supporters that cannot see they have been fairly fortubnate with the draw at times, sure Fergie shouted 'FIX' to the world when UNited got drawn with Real Madrid in the knockout stages. And those teams you mentioned, none were as bad as schalke

Every team gets good draws, every team gets bad. I remember back in the mid 90s when we got stuck in the same group as Juve twice in a row and next season got Bayern and Barca and fans were crying fix. And what did we do? We won the thing!
This season we get the "easy" draw and go out. Ultimately people who claim some teams only do as well as they do cos they get lucky draws are just talking out of their arse - you get the draw, you play the teams, everyone gets a bit of luck at some point, and you either win the trophy or you don't. A lot of the stick is just because United were fortunate but some do forget finishing top of the group plays its part too.

I'm pretty sure the first leg for you guys vs Zurich was the same - didn't your guys just play keep ball for the last twenty mins knowing that Zurich would never score three at Anfield? And even then the Swiss didn't get a sight of goal. Tho' that was probably as much to do with how good your 77 team was I guess - hard to objectively compare two teams across 35 years.
