Well where do i start with this post.

The unthinkable has happened tonight and we have been knocked out in the group stages. I had a bad feeling about tonight's match and them thoughts have become reality with us somehow losing to Basel. A lot of opposition fans will be on our board taking the **** out of us but who can blame them, when some of our own fans go to other boards when they lose to take the mick out of them.

We will all be hurting tonight and Fergie will be one who will be feeling the most pain so those criticizing our manger needs to realize what a great job he has done with the club but seriously hope we can get a world class midfielder in the January transfer market.

Our performance tonight was positive but we just could not score a 2nd despite having large periods of possession and this has been our problem all season. When i saw Macheda being warmed up, my hearth sank to see him come on because these kind of players are not United quality.

Nani was our best player tonight and was the only real threat going forward and Giggs despite being so "old" proved us all wrong and put in a good shift so lets hope he can stay on for a couple of years to guide the likes of Cleverly, Smalling, Jones forward because these guys are the future of our club.

We can point fingers at the likes of De Gea and Smalling for the 2 goals we conceded or we can move forward because blaming certain individuals will not help us nor will it help the team.I suppose as i come to the end of this post, i should congratulate Basel because they defended great for large periods of this game.

The abu's and wums will start shelling out this "decline" myth, but make no doubt Manchester United will come back stronger than ever after this loss and Fergie will prove those who doubt him wrong once again.

In all seriousness, tonight you were unlucky with that particular game. This was a group you should've walked through and with Fergie's experience in this comp you'd expect him not to take the piss. I liked facing the English clubs in the CL and would've liked to face you lot at some point for revenge!

Unfortunately you will probably bounce back. It's not been a good CL campaign but things change quickly in football and I've seen to many Man Utd come backs to write you off.

Off course I hope this is the beginning of the end but will be cautious in my piss taking.

He's from Stoke, what do you expect?

Right, serious matter here, as a gooner, trust me, i'm used to bad times, and poor results, and you'll get over it easily enough. Look on the bright side, you're probably going to win the europa league.

Sorry DB..we were not unlucky,we were dire.Even our goal needed 3 attempts to cross the line.We started this season brilliantly then got found out and we're now playing to the level that these players are capable of.Desperately needed a creative midfielder in the summer,as good as Young started he's now gone backwards. We'll be back though!!!Good luck to Chelsea in your campaign. Now that we're out I'd like to see you lot go all the way.

I agree. People come out with "dominating, but not our/your day" in most of the games we play now. Its not luck or form. Its the total lack of creativity throughout the entire squad. If a team defends well we wont score.

  12. See, I don't think they will.

United were not "unlucky" at all. Basle restricted United to very few chances, and defended valiantly. United, by contrast, were extremely wasteful and lax in defence, as they have been in the EPL. United fans have simply got to face facts, that this United side is not a patch on sides gone by. This United side looks vulnerable, and can be got at. I wouldn't be so arrogant as to say that United can be written off in the league, if only because I have far too much respect for SAF's abilities as a manager and a coach. But Basle deserved to win tonight on their own merits. Now, I doubt that many would be predicting Basle to win the Europa League, had they dropped down into that competition, so why should anyone confidently predict that United will win it? What has United done this season to suggest that they will do anything but struggle in both the EL and the EPL?

I think SAF needs to have a serious restructuring of the squad before United become any where near as dominant as they once were. I'm not saying that they'll be cut adrift like LFC has and drop out of the top 4 - that would be going too far. I am not here to wum. But it's clear that United have more than £ity to fear in the EPL this season.

Not sure what you're getting at here, last season we only got scored on once in the group stage, and finished top of our group despite not always playing our first XI. The teams we've put out that season have been closest to our first XI as we can be with all of our injuries.

We didn't get knocked out because we lost in Basle tonight. We got knocked out because we let a 2 goal lead slip at home to Basle and a 1 goal lead at home to Benefica slip. A win in either of those games would have got us through to the knock out stages. Letting leads slip in general is poor, but letting teams come back into the game at Old Trafford is where we really ****ed things up.

Regardless, if we keep grinding out 1-0 victories I think we'll win the title. We'll finish the season strong like we always do and City will have a blip in form as the season goes on.

    Good points Alan.

However, the January transfer window is not a viable market since most of the main players are settled,Modric for example, and will not be considered for sale.

Manu also have to consider that their currency is severely devalued since they are not in the CL,regardless of the eligibility of any new recruits, and lagging behind in the premier league.

Most top players will have multiple options in regard of really top clubs and manu will not be top of anyones list currently.

Javi Martinez, for example, has stated he is flattered but not interested.

Ferguson could do worse than look at the best young talent in Europe..Iker Muniain...would be perfect for uniteds traditional style of play...bit of a young Besty...have you even heard of him?

    He is outstanding.

The problem about buying Spanish players is the significant tax tariff above the transfer fee...20% until recently.

A lot of supporters are not aware of this extra expenditure.

Hopefully this will serve to highlight our poor central midfield.

It may also mean that we can spend on a midfielder in January without having to worry about them being cup tied for Europe - if any good midfielders are available.

There's no excuses about not qualifying. It was one of the easier groups and we basically just ****ed it up

This is not a WUM - I was delighted at last nights result I'll admit (I had £10 for a 2-1! and have no love for Utd as every LFC support should), but Man Utd have been more than the sum of their parts for ages - the vaneer is finally peeling away especially when you look at the squads of other EPL teams (never mind European outfits)
Ferguson should not be beyond reproach - he has made mistakes (Eg goalkeeper succession, midfield 'general' role) and Utd find themselves embaressed at home by City, Off the pace in the league, dumped out of the CC by lower league opposition and deservedly exiting the CL at the earliest opportunity. Any other manager would be in serious trouble by now - just because Ferguson has a fine track record shouldn't mean he is untouchable - thoughts?

Tough times could continue with City in the cup (potentially Europa also) and injury to Vidic - interesting times ahead

Sir Alex Ferguson 12 premier league, titles 5 FA cups,2 European cups, 4 League cups, weve had a bad few months theres no doubt about that, but how you can question a manager with a record like that is ridiculos , when your king gets to fergies level then perhaps you can offer a view

That's my point - he never gets any critism. Almost blind faith?

I'll ignore your whiny attempt at a put down - my view is as valid as anyone elses.

Does anyone have a more reasoned response?
