Yes I have read about it, and I honestly think Terry will be far better off for having the courts involved.
The procedures that took place in the Suarez FA trial would have a real court case thrown out for contempt, e.g. evidence only allowed to be reviewed by the prosecution before providing witness statements.
The courts have no political agenda (trying to show themselves as serious about racism in contrast to Platini). The procedures and standards will be much higher.
If Terry is found to be not guilty (likely due to higher standard of proof), the FA will do nothing to him.
If he is found to be guilty, the FA will give him a 4 match ban (claiming Suarez's was 4 matches x 2 for multiple uses of the word, even though said multiple uses were on the word of Evra alone) and a fine of about £20,000.
So Terry is in a no-lose situation relative to Suarez, despite there being video evidence against him as opposed to the inconsistent testimony of Evra alone against Suarez.
So let's look at it like this:
assuming he is guilty, Terry can risk paying a measly £2500 extra by going to court and taking the chance that the higher standards there will lead to a not guilty verdict and overrule a £20,000 (approx) fine and 4 match ban.
£2500 for a good chance of cancelling out £20,000 and 4 matches is a great bet.
Hence my original claim that it would have made sense for Terry to make the complaint to the police himself.
Also, by taking it to a real court then entire thing is delayed and he gets to finish the PL and even play the Euros before any ban can come in. There is then an entire summer transfer window to find a replacement, which they would do anyway due to his age.
