I’m wary that in the last few seasons, a number of teams have been “promoted” early after their results, Preston more than once iirc. Early signs are very good, but, as Vince said, it’s how you react to losing that is important. With any luck we won’t find out until next season in the prem… But if/when we lose, the team and manager need to react. Hopefully (and I believe so) this is the right team and manager to do that
There's already been posts, some on here, warning about not getting carried away ... ... it's as daft as losing five in a row and me telling people not to be disappointed. The whole point of being a supporter is to enjoy good play, goals and victories. If not it's like saying, 'Don't cheer that goal, the other side might equalise'
The thing with a lot of the teams that have fallen away, particularly Preston last year, is that it always looked likely to happen. All the underlying data suggested that their results weren’t particularly deserved and certainly weren’t sustainable. It’s still early days and a small sample but that just hasn’t been the case with us. The biggest indicator to me as to whether we’re real contenders is, as you say, what happens after a couple of bad results. Le Bris had a similarly excellent start to his Lorient career but fell away around October and never really recovered for a year and a half. I’ve no idea whether there are parallels or circumstances in common here to what was in Lorient, beyond the head coach, but it’s why I’m hesitating a little before leaping aboard HMS PissThe League.
Before the Portsmouth game i would have been happy with 4 points from these two games, i will still not be disappointed with 4 but am hopeful of 6. oh and for all going on the long journey have a safe and happy day
Fair enough, I’ve not seen them. I’ve seen posts, mine included, saying that the team will need to guard against being complacent as it’s probably the biggest threat to us at the minute but they’ll obviously know that and Le Bris will be drumming it in to them, it’s not saying though that fans shouldn’t do what they want and revel in what they’re seeing.
My feelings exactly mate. There are two specific roles in my opinion. It's the player's job to stay focussed, treat each game as a different challenge and not become blasé ... ... it's our job to go to each game, as confident as can be, stick our chests out and make as much noise as possible. Portsmouth, to be fair, have good home support but you could hear us all through the match. If that makes the smallest difference to our players, and their confidence, that's job done in my opinion.
What's impressed me most about this start is that none of the 4 teams we have played have really made Patterson work in goal, we been seriously solid when defending - even when Neil was sent off there was no way Burnley was going to sneak a goal. And what's even more impressive is that even though we're playing well, its not enough for RLB! He reminds of the old school type football manager, someone like Fergie or maybe even Reid for us, he's galvanised both the players and the fans and we're all pulling in the same direction, he must be happy with the start we've made but he's not really showing it and wanting more from the players. Writing this I've got butterflies just thinking of how good this season could be if we keep doing the things we're doing. We have the makings of a bloody hell of a team, with players that other teams will be jealous of and prem teams looking at trying to nick from us. The confidence must be flowing through not just the team but the club at the minute and its basically the same players who finished demoralised last season. Can't wait for the next game and defintely can't wait to see what these new players can do - and its to be seen how they even get onto the pitch with the way we've been playing!
Yeah absolutely. What I noticed the other day was, at 86 minutes we got a free kick on the wing, we loaded the box like it was 0-0!! Might have been different at 1-0 up but just go and score goals. Absolutely great to watch
Quite right. Of course most of us have been carried up to the heights, only to be sent crashing to the floor later, but that's not what has always happend. We have had almost as many promotions as we have had relegations. (ONE more relegation) In any case, what would these pessimists prefer? To be always on the floor I supose. Me, I'm enjoying it as it happens, Long may it continue..
Unless you're Man City you'll always be able to do better ... ... mind you, even some of the City fans moan. Apparently it's expensive paying for endless cup final tickets and travelling Europe
