Agents are now trustworthy! Since when?

An agent is out for the best deal for his client and in the process; for himself. If every club simply agreed with agents terms and avoided negotiations then players wages and signing on fees would be far more astronomical then they are now.

It may well be £40k per week as a wage with add ons and bonuses that haven't been stipulated yet.

That wasn't stated in the agents announcement to alert other clubs.

Or it may be £20k with bonuses that take it up to £40k, who knows? The point is, whatever the offer was, its just laughable that you actually think a player would leave a champions league club for Newcastle, who have got no European football whatsoever, and accept lower wages in the process.

Do you really think you went in for the likes of Gameiro, Gervinho etc with the intention of getting them? I don't believe so, as you proved with Marveaux, when there's a player you actually want, you will pay what he wants.

I think Short has definately reigned in the spending from his own pocket after a few years of good investment and just allowed Bruce to use the Henderson money but I feel if Buce found a player he really wanted then Short would have no problem in dipping into his pockets (I hope!).

It certainly makes me think how lucky we are with Short/Quinny in charge when you look at Newcastle's position.

Not if you already know that he is earning more where he is.

Here's the selling pitch:-

Llambias "We want you to uproot yourself (and family?) from a country where you speak the language, to another country. At NUFC, you will be joining a club with a dicatorial regime, where the better players have all been sold, or are about to be sold, where at best you might end up in midtable, or at worst be in a relegation dogfight.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. You'll be on less than your current salary, and there is a clause in your contract that your wages will be reduced if we do go down. What do you think, Tranquillo?"

Barnetta: "Where do I sign boss?"

I think you just made that up...

Like I said, I have no idea about our finances. Just going by past windows under mr Short. He tends to splash the cash big style on a player near the end of the window. He has a history of this, Ashley doesn't.

I personally would rather have smart signing than big signing.
Only my opinion but I dont think Short will be funding a big signing for you's this summer, you know your current weakness is the lack of a left sided winger who realistally can you get?

Cabaye signed from Lille who have Champions League football next season.

I like Raaaul, Raaaul talks sense.

I hate to agree with you, but I have to. Quinn is a proper football man, and a gent to boot. Llambias is a dishonest bloated toad.

This ^^^

Ashley ain't going to offer him £50K a week if he'd take £40K, just feeling him out.

Doing a poor job of it then. Maing a stupid offer (and asking him to take a pay cut can't be regarded as anything else) just impairs your credibility in any future negotiations

Thats the big question isn't it. Who can we get who is young, talented and available for the right money? I can't answer it mate, better people than me are working on that problem. As far as rather having smart signings than big signings, I think the 9 we have brought in so far cover that. Its a big signing, a game changer and a shirt seller we will be after now. It makes good business sense as well as footballing sense. In my opinion anyway.

Maybe Cabaye wasn't going to get a game at Lille. Just a thought.

Get a grip man, the three stand out players for them last season were Hazzard, Gervinho and Cabaye. Even the manager was puzzled as to why he had left them to join us in the interview he gave on the subject. He clearly would have featured for them this season, quit the straw grasping!

Hmmm, not sure about that, club vice captain and joint highest season appearances. Likely he would get a game.

Signing players who don't get a start seems to be more in line with the SAFC remit.

I did say it was just a thought. How much was he by the way? How long did he have left on his contract?
