No one else has bid for Barnetta though so that negates your spurious association.

The agent clearly says that they had told Newcastle what kind of wage he would have to have to sign for Newcastle. Its what Everton have been doing for ages, placate the fans by pretending you have ambition and are looking to sign some more quality players by putting in a derisory offer for a player which you know won't be accepted.

The local journos seem to think that we've bypassed this agent (Barry McIntosh, his 'British representative'), who we dealt with over Ewerthon in February.

Agents are now trustworthy! Since when?

An agent is out for the best deal for his client and in the process; for himself. If every club simply agreed with agents terms and avoided negotiations then players wages and signing on fees would be far more astronomical then they are now.

It may well be £40k per week as a wage with add ons and bonuses that haven't been stipulated yet.

That wasn't stated in the agents announcement to alert other clubs.

What makes you think this? The Henderson money is gone on the 9 players you sign and you aint got all the Bent money yet if any!

You obviously have very good sources within SAFC. I'm just going by the fact that Short is a Billionaire and is yet to put his hand in his pocket this window. (if you accept that we have only spent money brought in from sales).

You not think so Chappaz? I'm not sniping I just imagine the mood in the camp must be pretty low right now. From the outside looking in, everything that seemed good and right about NUFC seems to be gone or going. Team spirit built around a manager the players respect and liked and who got you off your knees, Hughton sacked when doing extremely well. The lifeblood and backbone of your team, Enrique, Nolan, Barton, Carroll, gone or going. The Nolan and Barton sagas must affect the players still there. The thing that Newcastle seemed to have in abundance was spirit and willingness to fight I can't help but think that has been dented massively by Ashleys actions. When the going gets tough will the current crop have the same fight in them?

We might not have that same spirit as last season and the season before, but that's far from turmoil. Pretty much every other club in the EPL does perfectly fine without some high and mighty leader (like Nolan/Barton) to keep the team spirit flowing. A squad can do that all on its own if they gel together well. We still have long standing players at the club like Ameobi, Harper, Barton (so far), Colo, Taylor and so on who can teach the new players just what they're fighting for.

Carroll went cos someone offered £35mill, and he's been gone for ages. Nolan didn't get the contract he wanted, and he's been gone for a while now. Barton didn't get the contract he wanted, so he's thrown a strop and the club are currently dealing with him. There's no other reason for any of the other 20 odd men in our squad to feel in a low mood, and none of them have suggested they are.

I wouldn't really consider Carroll or Enrique part of the back bone of our team. Times change. Ba/new striker, Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Colo and Krul are the new back bone of key players who will lead us forward. Barton is included in that if he chooses to stay put (which he can still do, despite being offered for free).

They're all grown men, half of them are millionaires and they're professionals doing a job. I think people over-estimate how important players like Barton and Nolan are in 'keeping the team spirit'. The squad isn't a bunch of 12 year olds who need a pat on the head. They'll step out to 50,000+ fans every week, realise what they're fighting for and learn to love the club and fans, just like pretty much every player has who has came through out doors.

I honestly think that the Barton situation has caused people to whip themselves up into a frenzy about it all and assume that just because he's throwing a tantrum, the entire squad of 20+ men are feeling low.

Well why comment, just ignore, this was set up by one of your fans, maybe just maybe to talk about the state of the current football world when £40k is deemed an insult

I thought it would be of intrest but I can remove it at a stroke

Our pain = their pleasure .. and vice versa ..

Plus it was Syd who started it .. <ok>

Genuine intrest mate

I wonder if we will bid for him. We need a winger and have plenty of money.

It says we are looking but will we pay 80k a week?

Ashley is a Billionaire, so this means nothing, and the fact over the last 2 seasons the club has made a operating loss of over £50m, maybe Ellis is keeping his money in his pocket and consolidating. Its common knowledge that Villa are paying you £6m every 6 month for Bent and the 1st £6m had to go to spurs for what you still owed them.

I dont get the insults..why does he feel the need to do that? When we went to sign Chamachk last season the chairman of the club we were trying to buy him off peppered us with insults it boiled my piss why he felt the need to do this?

As for agent Ashley even a blind man with bricked up windows can see what he is doing here. He is trying yet again to make it look like he is going after a player knowing fine well he aint gonna get him afterall it makes him look good eh!!!. Its a bit like Joey Barton is saying "i love you all" but dumping a big pile of stinking **** on your door matt before he heads off into the sunset with his geordie halo intact and a wad full of wonga which he will receive from whichever idiot club take him on.

Not good times at the moment for your lot...thank god for Quinn/Short

Like I said, I have no idea about our finances. Just going by past windows under mr Short. He tends to splash the cash big style on a player near the end of the window. He has a history of this, Ashley doesn't.

I personally think we'll have the same spirit. We have lost Nolan who was a big character, but we've got a new set of friends in - Ben Arfa, Marveaux, Cabaye, Abeid. If people actually knew each other before coming here, it means a greater chance of spirit and chemistry.

I personally think the spirit is still here. Losing Hughton was probably the worst blow that could have happened to our team spirit, but we still marched on, then Carroll went, our number 9 and hero, but we still marched on. We've gained more players and more friends.

This ^^^

Ashley ain't going to offer him £50K a week if he'd take £40K, just feeling him out.

Not if you already know that he is earning more where he is.

Here's the selling pitch:-

Llambias "We want you to uproot yourself (and family?) from a country where you speak the language, to another country. At NUFC, you will be joining a club with a dicatorial regime, where the better players have all been sold, or are about to be sold, where at best you might end up in midtable, or at worst be in a relegation dogfight.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. You'll be on less than your current salary, and there is a clause in your contract that your wages will be reduced if we do go down. What do you think, Tranquillo?"

Barnetta: "Where do I sign boss?"
