I saw a lot of Empire Strikes Back in this one. Degoba = that black hole/pool / yoda training = luke training / x wing under water x 2 / yoda dying = luke dying. The Alliance are at their lowest ebb now so the only way is up.
According to BBC: http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-42387021 The latest Star Wars film generated more than $450m (£337m) in global ticket sales on its opening weekend. The total for The Last Jedi includes $220m (£165m) from box offices in the US and Canada, placing the film second in the all-time list for North America. It trails behind the 2015 release Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opened with a record-breaking $248m (£167m). But the sum dwarfs that of its nearest rival, the computer-animated comedy Ferdinand which took $13m (£10m). The film has been widely praised by critics, and has a score of 93% on the film review website Rotten Tomatoes. Will Gompertz, the BBC's Arts Editor, gave it four out of five stars and said it was "packed with invention, wit, and action galore". Maybe we need someone else to take-over the post-match player rankings - looks like we cant trust Tash's opinions any more.
93% by critics,. 55% by fans. Meaning emotionally detached critics that don't give a **** about the characters liked it, where as Star Wars fans who care about the characters disliked it.
Star Wars is only good for the drinking game and you all get a character, every time they appear you take a drink.
Funny thing this starving world, did you know the population of Ethiopia at the time of Live Aid in 1985 was around 40 million, it now stands at over 104 million, this despite all the famines and failures to deliver aid, Sub Saharan Africa as a whole has more than doubled it's population over this period from around 500 million to over 1 billion, it is expected to double again in the next 30 years to over 2 billion.
I saw it again today, I actually liked it a lot more, however, it was still really disappointing the way it completely disregarded some big characters. The movie simultaneously was great and **** at the same time.
I think it will be appreciated more over time and I agree there are faults, although I think every Star Wars movie made to date has faults to some extent. The 2 biggest problems older Star Wars fans seem to have are that, firstly, they have their own expectations as to what they want to happen and are setting themselves up for a let down, and, secondly, they think/hope they will watch it and feel like they did when they were 8 years old and saw A New Hope for the first time. Hence some negative reviews of a film that has a lot going for it. These are family films and not necessarily pitched at me, and I accept that. The spin offs hold more interest for me as they are more of a 'grown up' Star Wars and I was pleasantly surprised by Rogue One so I'm looking forward to the next two movies, especially the Han Solo one (although Ron Howard taking over worries me slightly - one, because they needed to change directors and, two, because Ron Howard tends to make slightly sterile feeling movies).
