Last season we scored 68 and shipped 60 - this season we scored 44 and shipped 54 - so we were better defensively this season but awful up front - it's not difficult to see where the problems are and to be fair it's been obvious to everyone
12th since Selles came in, that's terrific considering the context of the side he inherited and attempted to cobble together in January. Surely, SURELY we don't rip it up and start again without giving him a chance to prove himself.
I quite like it actually, but since I don’t own one and am unlikely to own whatever the next one is, feel free
Good suggestion / point re. Kamara, Burstow and Joseph, although probably they do already have use of a sports psychologist? Kamara has the talent, but there is something that seems to hold him back. Maybe it is at least partly psychological. With Burstow, I'm convinced there's a real player in there. Hopefully we see more of it next season. Still only 21, a tad younger than Kamara. With Joseph, sorry, I just don't think he's very good. And he's more than a couple of years older than the other 2, so not so much a young inexperienced kid. Very willing, but just not that good. Would love to be proven wrong with him of course.
I just hope this season was a wake up call and obvious learning curve for our owner and those involved with player recruitment. History has shown it doesn’t take much to excite the football side of the City and beyond but given what’s been on display for most of this season the patience shown by supporters this season has been extraordinary. UTT.
Agree, Acun has to learn from his previous mistakes of sacking managers to then replace them with someone with less ability than the person he just sacked!!! Selles needs to ship out the players he inherited & doesn't want & to bring in the players that he needs. There are just too many average players in the current squad Up front is the big problem, money will need to be spent to bring in a proven Championship striker (no more League 1 strikers)
I’ll put it this way. If we are in financial trouble I’d trust Selles to maybe keep us up next season. We’d have to be able to say the same about any replacement
I know you said 'if', but surely it's now time for everyone to drop this 'we are in financial trouble' rumour stuff. Along with the 'he's lost interest', 'he's selling up', etc etc. It's embarrassing. Of course there isn't a bottomless pit and there's financial constraints, but just let them now get on with the job. Lesson's have undoubtedly been learnt and they are on with it.
Talk of giving Selles the tintack is a bit crazy without considering the question of who in their right mind would come here, especially if there's little planned change in the squad depth and talent....Only the desperate for a job, a failure elsewhere, or a Tim Walter clone would take it... If Acun is making the decisions it could be anyone in those three categories...
Agree. And he will (as best he and Dublin are able). But with the striker, we need more than 1. Any successful side looking to be a serious contender needs at least 2 quality strikers. Maybe 1 of those could still be Pedro, he has real quality, and, although it took time, he's proved his fitness for this level. If he goes, we need 2 more. I wouldn't mind him staying, and seeing what he can do with much better service that he would get this next season, albeit most likely as the 2nd striker (but NOT with Joseph as first, so what to do with him??!!!). .
Forget his name now, coloured guy, sat with his agent in the best seats in West Stand, he was sat looking at his mobile all the first half looked bored out of his skull, then the half time whistle blew and they both upped and cleared off never to be seen or heard of again.
Thomas-Assante or the lad Keinan Davis..who was at Forest during their promotion season. Or was that the season before?
Did Acun do some sort of post-match interview after Portsmouth? Saw on Twitter he did and said some things…
I think we need strength like Matazo , Zambrano and Lincoln has it too , they keep the ball . We need a bit of mobile height in the middle as we have way too many small players or players a stone under weight to be really pushing or winning a ball consistently . Pompey roughed us up and whilst we didn’t shy away from it they still came away with the ball in a challenge than we did .
