The selling off of the gold reserves was due to baling out the banks after their irresponsible lending which was a result of Thatcher's deregulation of the bamks. The austerity measures were a political decision to shrink the welfare state as opposed to stimulating the economy making it grow not the vicious circle of reducing spending resulting in an economy only now getting back to 2010 levels but I'm pleased that someone benefitted from it.

Do us all a favour, the Labour Party had been in government for 11 years before the GFC. in 2011 Gordon Brown admitted his great mistake when delivering the keynote speech at Bretton Woods. It was GB who changed the regulatory arrangements that were in place in 2008.

Good job I’ve got a life vest -it’s a pension - yes a pension. To which I paid into over decades and a pitiful return it is but still more than my children will get.
An old age pension thanks to the Labour movement, I’m still alive thanks to the Labour Party giving us the NHS.
Born without a silver spoon in me gob. Grafted so I am foing well but can never forget who I am and from what stock I come. JC4PM

You should show and tell your children how to prepare properly, then. I'm 36 and not even bothering to pay into a pension because I've smelt the coffee and realised they're worthless. Grafted away and saved up a lot of money, especially last year, that's gone into property. Mortgages will be gone by 60, sell up and I'll be sorted.

I come from a rough council estate in Jarra and Labour have never done a damn thing for me. If you want a good future, then you should be prepared to go and get it. I'll never forget my roots. BJ 4 EVERYBODY.
